Words of Jesus

"Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is, `Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." And the scribe said to him, "… to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."

Mark 12:28-34

In her voyage across the ocean of this world, the Church is like a great ship being pounded by the waves of life's different stresses. Our duty is not to abandons ship but to keep her on her course.

— St. Boniface

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You, I sit here this morning thinking how to express all that is racing through my mind; trying to practice Your presence in every thought, word and action as well as attitude so that in all things I reflect faith, hope and love following the teaching of Jesus by not worrying or being anxious, and as St. John wrote yesterday in every way and everything 'learn to feel for the ills others suffer', so that I will 'learn to endure the ills they inflict' and in doing so be able to make acceptance and forgive part of every breath I take so as to breath in acceptance by feeling their ills and breathing out forgiveness in and through my faith because of my hope and to show Jesus' love for me. So as I wrestle with myself over how, why and I try to control my anger, pride and selfish nature; feeling all along so poorly and embarrassed for having these feelings let alone expressing them to You; when it hits me.

Thank You for the blessing of faith, hope and love! For while I may fight within and over myself over these ways and things, I have the greatest blessing of all – faith. Faith that is rooted in the belief that is fact to me that You are my Lord God, Jesus is my Lord and Savior, and Your Spirit through Jesus lives in me.

So while I suffer with my own ills, I know I am not a lone because I never feel alone as I once did when I would turn to myself rather than to You. So I know that these things that cause the ills that I suffer with and in, are only real if I let them be real. I know this because I can feel Your presence, and in this feeling I am truly blessed! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory. 11 The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him; 12 if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful — for he cannot deny himself. 14 Remind them of this, and charge them before the Lord to avoid disputing about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

4 Make me to know thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long. 8 Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9 He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
