Today is the Catholic Church celebrates the Birth of St. John the Baptist

Words of Jesus
Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Matthew 11:11

This is the difference between us and those who do not know God: they, in adversity, complain and grumble; we , on the other hand, are not drawn away from virtue by the things that go against us but are strengthened in it, for we know even the hairs of our head are numbered.
— St Cyprian

Abba, Father, Lord God, how thankful I am for all Your blessings even in the midst of strife and turmoil; and for Your inspired words which like today are rich in wisdom worthy of meditation and thought. O how my mind is a flutter with thoughts, beliefs, questions and most of all feelings, starting from the celebration of the John the Baptist by the Catholic Church. As I read Isaiah and the Psalms and then the Gospel of Luke I feel confirmation in my belief that before I (we) are formed in our mother’s worm You have planted in our hearts the need to know and have a relationship with You. After all You are our source of source; and while You know me (us) from the inside out, knowing even the number of hairs and You have had a plan for me, You have also let me make my own choices. In this I have failed You by choosing to do the wrong things and failing to do the rights things; but thankful am I for the Holy Spirit that lives in me. Not the voice I hear that is subconscious in nature derived from the ways under the sun, but the conscious voice that hears the subconscious and in Jesus through the Holy Spirit connects me with You and gives me the chance over and over to choose. My way or Yours? For under the sun we all seek to satisfy our human nature which is temporary, but this is a path that I feel runs contrary to our source and true spiritual nature which is eternal. I feel this point emphasized in the words attributed to John the Baptist `What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’ And the words they spoke of him at his circumcision ‘"What then will this child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him.‘ Therefore it is in faith that I find the hope that this question remains unanswered as long as I still walk under the sun, and in fact can be asked of me each day and in each moment ‘what then will this child be?’ for Your hand is with me too, but will I take it, can I overcome the subconscious being whose source is under the sun, and walk as a consciously being with You through Jesus in the Holy Spirit. This is what I ask and pray for today and in doing so may be a light on Your hill seen by someone today. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Audio books I am listening to and other books or readings I am reading:
The Shack Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!
