The Words of Jesus of Nazareth
The Royal Commandment
The most important of all of the commandments is this: You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all of your soul, and with your entire mind, and with all of your strength.
Let the second commandment then be: love your neighbor as you love yourself.
You have heard it said, “It is only right to love your friends and hate your enemies.”
But I ask you to love your enemies. Bless those who curse you. Show goodness to those who hate you. Pray for those who despise and mistreat you. Doing this, you will become the children of your Father in heaven; for he makes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain to refresh the just and the unjust. If you love only those who love you in return, where is the reward? Even the corrupt live by these rules.
Instead, love one another as I have loved you. Doing this, everyone will realize that you are my disciples, because your lives are filled with acts of selfless love. Do not be deceived: if you say that you truly love me, your life will be lived according to my words and you will be honored by my Father and blessed with his presence.
Abba, Father, Lord God, as think of all I have to be thankful for, even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt as what to do; I am humbled by the Words of my Lord Jesus, and reminded that just as must by selfless love, must walk by faith, faith that is expressed in hope, hope that is the source of my love, with Jesus as my source and one with You my source – my source or source. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
No man [truly] making a profession of faith sinneth; nor does he that possesses love hate any one. The tree is made manifest by its fruit; so those that profess themselves to be Christians shall be recognized by their conduct. For there is not now a demand for mere profession, but that a man be found continuing in the power of faith to the end.
— St. Ignatius
4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."
Audio books I am listening to and other books or readings I am reading:
The Diamond in Your Pocket: Discovering Your True Radiance unabridged By Gangaji Narrated by Gangaji – The first major book release from Gangaji, describes our never-ending search to find fulfillment, which, paradoxically, is already present if we will only stop long enough to discover its true source. "I have discovered that it is actually impossible to find happiness," Gangaji explains. "As long as you are seeking to find happiness somewhere, you are overlooking where happiness is…in your true nature."
The Daily Message Unabridged by Eugene H. Peterson Narrated by Kelly Ryan Dolan – The much-anticipated daily "reading" version of The Message in audio format is finally here. Designed for individuals as well as small groups, The Daily Message combines Discipleship Journal’s renowned book-at-a-time reading plan with a flexible format that allows the listener to go through the Bible in one year or spread out the listening with an alternate two-year plan. This version provides monthly plans for 26 readings, and allows for reflection time, minimizing frustration. It also includes Eugene Peterson’s acclaimed chapter introductions from The Message.
