Jesus Questioned About Fasting

Then John’s disciples came and asked him, "How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.

Lord God, Abba Father, thankful and humbly I ask and pray discipline, oneness and servants eye; the discipline to carry out and finish what I start for You, oneness in Your wisdom to know what is right and best according to You will for me to do, and servants eye to see and know what and who You want me to serve. This I ask in Jesus name, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

20  So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  21  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  1  Working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain.  2  For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

1  "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.  2  "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  3  But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,  4  so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  5  "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  6  But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  16  "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  17  But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,  18  that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
