Today’s verse
Galatians 5:22-24 NLT
[22] But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! [24] Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
REFRAMING JESUS
GALATIANS 5:22-23—BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS
Every once in awhile in one of those big grocery-store warehouses, the label of a can will snag on something and tear off. Then what? Without the picture and colorful lettering, how can anyone know what’s inside? Would you buy a can with no label and hope for the best? Maybe if you’re looking for a fun party game—but cans without labels make planning dinner a difficult prospect. The outside of a label-less can conceals whatever is inside, good or bad. Paul reminds us that when the Holy Spirit is truly alive and at work within us, people will know. The good work that is happening within us oozes out in the way we live. Our lives become the labels, but rather than chicken soup, our labels show things like “patience,” “gentleness,” and “goodness.” The Holy Spirit is hard at work inside of us, changing us in profound ways. And that change spills right out into our lives as we are made to be more and more like Jesus.

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, even though I struggle at times with the meaning and purpose of my walk under the sun. And I let how others handle their struggles get to me. I realize how we all let the routine and repetitiveness of our daily walk, problems at work and with each other get to us. We have our highs and lows, our strengths and weaknesses. Help me not to judge but pray at all times without ceasing. Help me to see the larger picture, to see how what we do fits into Your eternal purposes. Help us to trust in you even when we do not see that larger picture. In those times, help me to endure with patience the walk you’ve given me this day and to help others do the same. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen
