Reading I Acts 5:27-33
When the court officers had brought the Apostles in
and made them stand before the Sanhedrin,
the high priest questioned them,
“We gave you strict orders did we not,
to stop teaching in that name.
Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching
and want to bring this man’s blood upon us.”
But Peter and the Apostles said in reply,
“We must obey God rather than men.
The God of our ancestors raised Jesus,
though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree.
God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior
to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins.
We are witnesses of these things,
as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”
When they heard this,
they became infuriated and wanted to put them to death.

He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God.
He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God remains upon him.

A Bold Fisherman
Now afraid of what will happen if they detain the Apostles again, the high priests decide to call these Christian witnesses to testify. In response to the Sanhedrin’s order not to proclaim the Good News, Peter says, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Although Peter hasn’t always portrayed this courageous honesty, he has been transformed by the Risen Christ. As the world becomes more hostile to Christianity, let us ask the Lord to strengthen our faith so that we can imitate Peter’s honesty and courage.

My prayer…
Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for today’s readings. For walking with me and mine. For letting me see Your hand at work in our walk, and feel Your presence in my heart. As we battle ourselves and the daily problems of our walk under the sun, help us to continue to grow closer to You in the Holy Spirit. We need You now Lord Jesus, come.
As the world becomes more hostile to Christianity, I ask You to strengthen our faith so that we can imitate Peter’s honesty and courage in today’s reading. Let Your love fill our hearts, to see Your image even in those who hate us and what we cherish most. For they fight and seek to destroy us in ignorant darkness, believing the lies of the evil one. Absent of truth, they can’t ever hope to see and know that the battle is not over this world, but Your Kingdom and has already been won.
So I keep praying for them to wake up before it’s to late. And for me and mine, and theirs to have a discerning heart to guide us through the battle.
Not our will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Apostles (Nicene) Creed
