Gospel Matthew 5:38-42
Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said,
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.
When someone strikes you on your right cheek,
turn the other one to him as well.
If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,
hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile,
go with him for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you,
and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”

Hanging Up the Gloves
What does it mean to love as Christ loves? Jesus’s teaching today gets to the root of this question. As Christians, we are not called to retaliation or vengeance but are invited to respond to those who persecute us with love, turning the other cheek.

My prayer…
Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for all the reminders of how we are to walk with You. Justly, merciful and humbly. Not always easy when mistreated or threatened, but always returned to us in the end.
Every day the hate, anger, and division seems to grow more and wider each day. One cannot watch or listen to much without seeing or hearing about it or the violence that results.
This is why we must stay focused on You, in Your presence, praying without ceasing. For not just protection but for grace and a merciful heart. Help us Jesus. Hear our prayers.
Not our will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Apostles (Nicene) Creed
