Words of Jesus

"I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled!

I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!

Luke 12:49-50

In this day in which the Rich became poor for our sakes, let the rich man make the poor man share with him at his table. On this day came forth to us the Gift, even though we had not asked for it! Let us therefore bestow alms on those who cry and beg from us.

— St. Ephraem the Syrian

Abba, Father, Lord God, it is clear that to walk in the light I must walk hand and hand with Jesus; likening my heart to His. For He is the light and in and through Him there can be no darkness. So if I want to be in the light it can only be through and in Jesus. I must be willing to die to the darkness within me; for darkness is the absence of light, and darkness cannot exist where there is light; the light of obedience to natural laws of the universe, the light of never ending forgiveness, and the light unconditional love. So in Jesus there is only light and darkness can only exist if we walk without Jesus, Jesus in our mind and heart. O Lord God fill my spirit with Christ Jesus so that I will feel, see and walk in His light. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 John 2:3-11</vbible/search.asp?abbr=_1John&ch=2&bv1=3&ev1=11>

3 And by this we may be sure that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He who says "I know him" but disobeys his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly love for God is perfected. By this we may be sure that we are in him: 6 he who says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 7 Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new commandment, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness still. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and in it there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6</vbible/search.asp?abbr=Ps&ch=96&bv1=1&ev1=3&bv2=5&ev2=6>

1 O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! 2 Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols; but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Luke 2:22-35</vbible/search.asp?abbr=Luke&ch=2&bv1=22&ev1=35>

22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, 29 "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; 30 for mine eyes have seen thy salvation 31 which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel." 33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; 34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed."

Words of Jesus
Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world.

Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice."
John 18:36-37

Invisible in His own nature, He became visible in ours. Beyond our grasp, He chose to come within our grasp. Existing before all time began, He began to exist in a moment in time. Incapable of suffering as God, He did not refuse to be man, capable of suffering. Immortal, He chose to be subject to the laws of death.
— St. Pope Leo the Great

Abba, Father, Lord God, my Lord Jesus Christ tells us a great secret that is within our grasp but far too often beyond our understanding; we are not of this world under the sun. This is why I know that faith is more powerful that fact; the invisible more certain than the visible. And why beyond my grasp of understanding, You are within my grasp of acceptance because of Jesus Christ. This same mind set is what I feel today’s readings tell us. Little is said and spoken in the Bible about Joseph and Mary, but all one has to do is look at their obedient nature, and meditate on the Child that they raised and what He did and accomplished. You blessed me Lord with an indescribable love for my children, a love that You used to awaken me to Your love. I see in today’s readings that this is the same love I have for my mother and father, my brother and sisters. And while there is much I do not understand in love I find acceptance. And in acceptance I feel the strengthen of faith, the power of hope, and the blessings of unconditional love which allow me to put on as Your child holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience in faith and hope that my children will not wait as I waited, and will be blessed by my example. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Sirach 3:2-7, 12-14
2 For the Lord honored the father above the children, and he confirmed the right of the mother over her sons. 3 Whoever honors his father atones for sins, 4 and whoever glorifies his mother is like one who lays up treasure. 5 Whoever honors his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard. 6 Whoever glorifies his father will have long life, and whoever obeys the Lord will refresh his mother; 7 he will serve his parents as his masters.
12 O son, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives; 13 even if he is lacking in understanding, show forbearance; in all your strength do not despise him. 14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you;
Psalm 128:1-5
1 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Lo, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. 5 The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!
Colossians 3:12-21
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, 13 forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. 18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." 19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, 20 "Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead." 21 And he rose and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. 23 And he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

Words of Jesus
24 Another parable he put before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27 And the servants of the householder came and said to him, `Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?’ 28 He said to them, `An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.‘" Matthew 13:24-30

36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field." 37 He answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38 the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41 The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 42 and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Matthew 13:36-43

Abba, Father, Lord God, today my mind is filled with personal, family and worldly thoughts and questions. The words of St. Paola remind me that in Jesus I am falling forward and I must not permit misery or defeats to stop or slow me down for with Christ Jesus the precious gem of holy humility awaits me if I stay true to Him and only Him. And that I am no different than anyone else under the sun except by the measure of faith, hope and love that I walk, reflect and give. For we all are blinded by the sun and fail to see the good and react as one does when looking directly at the sun, we turn and close our eyes to hide from the light; but we must meditate on the reading of John 1 today and be truthful in separating the trials and tribulations under the sun that everyone experiences and cannot control or avoid from the sins and lack of faith, hope and love by which we walk and can control and embrace. So as I ask You to help me do, throughout this day, I turn to Jesus and His parable of the Tares in the Field, for I am blessed to have ears that hear, I just have to focus turning towards the light of Jesus with open eyes and heart, and not react by turning away and closing my eyes to Him. Help me Lord God through these words of my Lord and Savior in the Holy Spirit in whose name I pray and ask, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 John 1:5 2:2
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; 7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and he is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
Psalm 124:2-5, 7-8
2 if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, 3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; 4 then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; 5 then over us would have gone the raging waters. 7 We have escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! 8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
Matthew 2:13-18
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was in a furious rage, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: 18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they were no more."

Words of Jesus
And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?"   Luke 2:49

"Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them.  For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished."   Matthew 5:17-18

"The law and the prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and every one enters it violently.  But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to become void." Luke 16:16-17

And Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons.  He said to them, "It is written, `My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you make it a den of robbers."  Matthew 21:12-13

And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.  And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."    Matthew 16:17-19

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."   Matthew 28:18-20

— St. Thomas Aquinas

Abba, Father, Lord God, the words of St. Thomas Aquinas greet me today bringing thoughts of tradition and change to mind. Clearly Lord God Your truths are true for all generations, as are the teachings of Jesus; but do we misinterpret faith and religion when it comes to the Church, or does our human being get in the way of our spirit being. For I believe that faith is of the spirit, and faith brings forth hope, and one cannot have true faith without hope, and one cannot have hope with feeling the Your love in and through Christ Jesus. When I think of Jesus and the Church, I think of what He said as a child to Mary and Joseph when they found Him in the Temple. I think about what He said about the law and the good news, His words to Peter, and His command to the disciples. I do so with thought that under the sun one cannot walk by faith, with hope, in love, alone. We need fellowship and all that the Church as the living body of Jesus is meant to be. However, we need to remain close to the words of Jesus or that human being will stop the spirit from being. O Lord I know I must walk in the spirit more than I do during the day, I must practice Your presence in all prayer and with supplication when ever my human being stops my spirit being from feeling Your presence. So this is my prayer today, that in me You will strengthen my spirit being, and that You will place me where I can do Your will with a chance to fulfill Your purpose for me in my life and with the Church. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 John 1:1-4
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life — 2 the life was made manifest, and we saw it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was made manifest to us — 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing this that our joy may be complete.
Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12
1 The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! 2 Clouds and thick darkness are round about him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 5 The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness; and all the peoples behold his glory. 11 Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!
John 20:1-8
1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag’dalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." 3 Peter then came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. 4 They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; 5 and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying, 7 and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;
