"…beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod." Jesus warns us of the corruptive action of ‘leaven’, a symbol of evil disposition; for as ‘a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough’ sharing such attitude is a ‘rebellious attitude toward Jesus’

Words of Jesus
Now they had forgotten to bring bread; and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. And he cautioned them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." And they discussed it with one another, saying, "We have no bread." And being aware of it, Jesus said to them, "Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?" They said to him, "Twelve." "And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?" And they said to him, "Seven." And he said to them, "Do you not yet understand?
Mark 8:14-21
When you find your heart growing sad, divert yourself without a moments delay. Take a walk, sing, read something, it matters not what, provided you close that door. Sad thoughts aprise the devil that a favorable moment has come for him to attack us.
— St. Philip Neri
Abba, Father, Lord God, do I seek to renew a grateful spirit, or do I avoid the leaven which Jesus spoke; for as it is written in James 'Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from You the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of Your own will You brought us forth by the Word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of Your creatures'. Jesus warns us Mark 8:15 beware of the corruptive action of 'leaven', a symbol of the evil dispositions; for as 'a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough' Galatians 5:9, sharing such attitude is a 'rebellious attitude toward Jesus' and Your Words of truth which He brought to us and is alive in us through the Holy Spirit. For 'Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which You Lord God have promised to those who love You. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for You cannot be tempted with evil and You Yourself tempts no one; but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death' just as a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough. Help keep me watchful and alert and by avoiding the leaven, keep my grateful spirit. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation." And he left them, and getting into the boat again he departed to the other side.
Mark 8:11-13
Let us meditate today on the condition of our soul. Are we making a sincere effort to rectify our intentions, to sanctify our daily responsibilities? There are things we fail to remember, not because we have short memories but because we are short of love. The person in love does not forget!
— St Teresa of Avila
Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for all Your blessings and these Words today that I count and hold most dear of all for they keep me feeling not seeing, feeling not hearing, feeling not reacting, feeling not expecting, feeling not wanting, and are filled with Your truths hidden in the heart of Jesus who stand at the door of our heart knocking. We need only open the door and feel. For in feeling one (I) 'count it all joy', as written in James today 'when you (I) meet various trials, (I) you know that the testing of your (my) faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you (I) may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you (I) lack wisdom, let him (me) ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him (me). But let him (me) ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord' and the Psalmist proclaims 'Thou art good and doest good; teach me thy statutes. It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes. The law of thy mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me. Let thy steadfast love be ready to comfort me according to thy promise to thy servant.' Let me meditate today on the condition of my soul. And allow me to make a sincere effort to rectify my intentions, to sanctify my daily responsibilities through the feeling the Your presence in all. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
John 20:19-23

Words of Jesus
Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had lain close to his breast at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?"
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!" The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?" This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
John 21:20-25
By the anxieties and worries of this life Satan tries to dull man's heart and make it a dwelling for himself there.
— St Francis of Assisi
Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this moment and this new day. Today's readings strike me each but also together. I see in the Acts, the strength of Paul's faith and the power Your will through Words and Work of Jesus. In the Psalms I see once again the truth of Your Words, yet hear the reality of the human condition which only in Jesus can we find the faith which produces hope to create moments with You, to be in Your presence. For I have come to think that as You are and always have been everywhere and in everything; Your holy temple is where You are and Your throne is where from which You are our source of source. The truth of Your Word is that like Adam and Eve the human condition is to seek that which it cannot understand nor ever be. Therefore for it is we who test You, and as such should not be surprised when You close Your eyes to our arrogance; it is this arrogance that prevents us from seeing Your righteousness and that both the righteous and the wicked are tested under the sun. Yet it is only those that like David who can continue to seek Your heart in and through all that hope to stand upright through Jesus behold Your face. For the human condition is weak in what it chooses to see both inside and outside itself, for it sees what it wants to see as it looks inside and outside itself. But in Jesus we have a living example of what we can be in Him if we listen and follow Him. O Lord God thank You for this moment and for opening my eyes to Your truth, I ask and pray that in Jesus name through the Holy Spirit that lives within me that You would strengthen feeling so that I will walk with eyes of faith filled with the hope that if I continue to seek, You will liken my heart to that of Jesus so my hope which is fed by faith produces love for all, and as such will make Your presence within me felt by all that see me. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." A second time he said to him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go." (This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.) And after this he said to him, "Follow me."
When did God's love for you begin? When He began to be God. When did He begin to be God? Never, for He has always been without beginning and without end, and so He has always loved you from eternity.
— St. Francis de Sales
Abba, Father, Lord God, grateful for yesterday and thankful for today in this moment is where I wish I could stay. For in this moment that separates past from future, last from next, what has been from what will be I feel closest to You. In this moment which is up to me to create and I am free to create anywhere and anytime is also where I am as far as the east is from the west from what I have done wrong or failed to do right for in this moment You remove me from my transgressions and free me to be the me You intended me to be. And it is in this moment in the Spirit, through Jesus that I get to feel You at work within me; and in this moment with You through Jesus in the Spirit is where I must practice and prepare myself, for it is here with You in the moment that I can see the feeling of less of me and more of You, and can learn how to get out of Your way. This moment that separates yesterday from today, past from next, east from west, also separates what I can be from what I will be; the key to this moment is spending it with and open to You focused on what I am, free of self, for I never leave the way I entered, never know what I do not know, and never been what I can and will be in You through Jesus present in the Spirit within me. Thank You Jesus! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
