Words written in red; Words of Jesus
"What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, `Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ And he answered, `I will not’; but afterward he repented and went. And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, `I go, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.
Matthew 21: 28 – 32

You don’t know how to pray? Put yourself in the presence of God, and as soon as you have said, "Lord, I don’t know how to pray!" you can be sure you have already begun.
— St. Josemaira Escriva

Abba, Father, Lord God, I repent and die to myself daily many, many times and I am humbled by my lack of progress aware that as far as I have come I have farther to go to be that light on the hill, a reflection of Jesus with my heart likened to His. Why is it the self never dies under the sun? Constantly I fight the expectations that only server to undermine and weaken me. Will I be able to walk under the sun and feel I have walk this day or that day with Jesus, knowing I looked at everything with eyes of faith, saw the hope in everything and felt and touched those whose path I crossed with love? Only You know Lord, only Jesus can deliver me from myself, mine is to be fervent in prayer and persistent in seeking. O that You would bless me and mine indeed, enlarging our territory for You, that You will keep us from evil and from causing pain.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Matthew 21:28-32

And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he did, he said to his disciples, "Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Luke 9: 43 – 45

Abba, Father, Lord God, as I walked I looked back, almost moment by moment knowing I was falling under the weight of my weakness, the burden of my own selfishness and pride; yet today You once again bless me with words of guidance and hope through the Gospel of Jesus and the words of St. Vincent de Paul. Help me to walk in these words surrounded by and focused on Your strengthen rather than my weaknesses. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10 Remove vexation from your mind, and put away pain from your body; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when you will say, "I have no pleasure in them"; 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain; 3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows are dimmed, 4 and the doors on the street are shut; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low; 5 they are afraid also of what is high, and terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along and desire fails; because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets;  6 before the silver cord is snapped, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern, 7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. 8 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus
Now it happened that as he was praying alone the disciples were with him; and he asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?" And they answered, "John the Baptist; but others say, Eli’jah; and others, that one of the old prophets has risen." And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "The Christ of God." But he charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, "The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."
Luke 9:18-22

Read some chapter of a devout book. It is very easy and most necessary, for just as you speak to God when at prayer, God speaks to you when you read.
— St Vincent de Paul

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for so much, humbled through the reality of my stumbles and shortcomings and the awareness of the Spirit within me reflecting the image of Jesus as a backdrop to compare and judge my walk in reflective moments and to convict me as I walk present and conscious in all I think, say and do. O Abba Father for the sake of His sorrowful passion on mercy on us and on the whole world. In the name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2  a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3  a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. 9 What gain has the worker from his toil? 10 I have seen the business that God has given to the sons of men to be busy with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time; also he has put eternity into man’s mind, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus

Then he spoke to them all. "If anyone wants to follow in my footsteps, he must give up all right to himself, carry his cross every day and keep close behind me. For the man who wants to save his life will lose it, but the man who loses his life for my sake will save it. For what is the use of a man gaining the whole world if he loses or forfeits his own soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels. I tell you the simple truth – there are men standing here today who will not taste death until they have seen the kingdom of God!"

Luke 9:23-27

There are two sides to every sin: the turning of the will toward fleeting satisfaction and the turning away from everlasting value. As regards to the first, the principle of all sins can be called lust— lust in its most general sense, namely, the unbridled desire for one's own pleasure. As regards to the second, the principle is pride—pride in its general sense, the lack of submission to God.

— St. Thomas Aquinas

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful yet hungry for Your Word and thirsty for Jesus' teachings knowing that with all I know and even if I learn all that is possible under the sun, I still know nothing for what is human knowledge without Your Wisdom, without the heart of Jesus. I welcome the words of the Prophets, Saints and Sages because they help cultivate my mind making it fertile for the seeds You plant in me through Jesus and nurture in the Spirit. Have mercy on me as I stumble in the dark while feeling for the Words to light me way. Forgive me when I fall off the path towards righteousness and oneness with You burdened by my weakness and selfish desires. Take my hand raise me out of myself pity and doubt and place my feet on the solid ground of Your truths I can only find in Jesus. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11<http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?abbr=Eccles&ch=1&bv1=2&ev1=11>

2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. 3 What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? 4 A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever. 5 The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. 6 The wind blows to the south, and goes round to the north; round and round goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns.

7 All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. 8 All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Is there a thing of which it is said, "See, this is new"? It has been already, in the ages before us. 11 There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to happen among those who come after.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus

And when a great crowd came together and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." As he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Luke 8: 4 – 15

You must love and help one another, and wait hopefully for the time when our Lord in His mercy will relieve our sufferings. Whatever happens, behave in such a way that God will be glorified. Be steadfast, and let us meet in heaven.

— St. Andrew Kim

Abba, Father, Lord God, today I can only give thanks and praise for the blessings of this day and the work you have performed in me through Jesus in the Spirit which guided my steps and kept me present, grateful, humble and feeling. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

1 Corinthians 15:35-37, 42-49<http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?abbr=_1Cor&ch=15&bv1=35&ev1=37&bv2=42&ev2=49>

35 But someone will ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?" 36 You foolish man! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body which is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 But it is not the spiritual which is first but the physical, and then the spiritual. 47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so are those who are of the dust; and as is the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

Psalm 56:10-14<http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?abbr=Ps&ch=56&bv1=10&ev1=14>

10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, 11 in God I trust without a fear. What can man do to me? 12 My vows to thee I must perform, O God; I will render thank offerings to thee. 13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, yea, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus

And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Luke 9: 1 – 6

Everything seems to me to pass so quickly that we must concentrate on how to die rather than on how to live. How sweet it is to die if one has lived on the Cross with Christ.

— St. Teresa of Avila

Abba, Father, Lord God, forgiveness for allowing my mind to be distracted by the needs and things under the sun, grateful and humbly aware is how I come to You know. Always seeking conscious presence with You, connected through My Lord Jesus as I walk in the Spirit seeking to maintain a humble spirit ever grateful in awareness of my weaknesses and the fact at the foot of the Cross is where my short comings will be weighted. For as I do for the least and most needed despite their intent and motives, I do for Jesus. Make my heart pure, likening it to the heart of Jesus. Help me trust with eyes of faith, and find my eyes of faith when hope dims by the weight of perceived needs and busyness under the sun. You know my heart, You know my spirit, I call on You to give me no more than what I need for me and mine, and that You let my eyes of faith, strengthen my hope, so that my love for others will be strong enough to overcome the weaknesses and short comings that burden others as mine burden me. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Proverbs 30:5-9<http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?abbr=Prov&ch=30&bv1=5&ev1=9>

5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you, and you be found a liar. 7 Two things I ask of thee; deny them not to me before I die: 8 Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, 9 lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, "Who is the LORD?" or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.

Psalm 119:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163<http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?abbr=Ps&ch=119&bv1=29&ev1=29&bv2=72&ev2=72&bv3=89&ev3=89&bv4=101&ev4=101&bv5=104&ev5=104&bv6=163&ev6=163>

29 Put false ways far from me; and graciously teach me thy law! 72 The law of thy mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is firmly fixed in the heavens. 101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep thy word. 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. 163 I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love thy law.
