Gospel Matthew 13:18-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Hear the parable of the sower.
The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the Kingdom
without understanding it,
and the Evil One comes and steals away
what was sown in his heart.
The seed sown on rocky ground
is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy.
But he has no root and lasts only for a time.
When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word,
he immediately falls away.
The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word,
but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word
and it bears no fruit.
But the seed sown on rich soil
is the one who hears the word and understands it,
who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You convicting new when I stumble, even if tripped. For to be fruitful I must still learn to be generous and stat good no matter what’s going on around me. Persevering over all obstacles no who or how created.
This is never easy. Yet in today’s world it seems harder than ever. So I must tune out everything but You Lord. Wholeheartedly listening and following Your direction. Help me Lord to be able to do what Your direct me to. It’s not easy. It’s lonely. It’s take every bit of strength within me. But with and through You I know I can do all things. Help me Jesus.
Hear my prayers for me and mine, and the whole world.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls. In Jesus name I pray. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

“Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?”
He said to them in reply,

To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich;
from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
This is why I speak to them in parables, because
they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.
Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says:
You shall indeed hear but not understand,
you shall indeed look but never see.
Gross is the heart of this people,
they will hardly hear with their ears,
they have closed their eyes,

and understand with their hearts and be converted
and I heal them.

Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,

“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
She said to them, “They have taken my Lord,
and I don’t know where they laid him.”
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?”
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
“Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to him in Hebrew,
“Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.

“Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
But go to my brothers and tell them,

Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for the wonder of Your living Word. It is alive! Inspiring, teaching and encouraging to all who seek You. Thank You for each of mine, may we each hear Your voice calling us to You.
Each day I start by praying and coming to You to prepare me for the day. To open my heart and mind to what You want to speak to me about today. Are You correcting or convicting me. Are You teaching or giving me wisdom for the day. Tuning my ear to Your voice for the day ahead. I know no other way to start each day, but with You.
You walk me through my thoughts, concerns and fears. For me, for mine and for the whole world. You remind me that You go before us, all that call You Abba Father. You are our Protector. You hear my prayers. Hear me again today.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for walking with me and mine. Hearing my prayers, giving me a thirst for You. Your Words, Your truths and Your promises.
The world challenges us beyond our abilities and understanding. So we are tempted to ask for signs, so we can find peace in all that’s happening around us. Yet as in today’s Gospel, You already have given us all we need to see Your hand at work. It is us that need to give You a sign. I sign of faith, trust and love.
Are we going to keep asking You to stop changing what we have become comfortable with, old wineskins. Or are we going to look to You for discernment in what’s happening. Find the faith, show the trust in what we believe and why that You have earned from us already. Help us Jesus.

Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying:
“The kingdom of heaven may be likened
to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
While everyone was asleep his enemy came
and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder came to him and said,
‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field?
Where have the weeds come from?’
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’
His slaves said to him,
‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds
you might uproot the wheat along with them.
Let them grow together until harvest;
then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
“First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning;
but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
He proposed another parable to them.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed
that a person took and sowed in a field.
It is the smallest of all the seeds,
yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants.
It becomes a large bush,
and the ‘birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.’”
He spoke to them another parable.
“The kingdom of heaven is like yeast
that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour
until the whole batch was leavened.”
All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables.
He spoke to them only in parables,
to fulfill what had been said through the prophet:
I will open my mouth in parables,
I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation
of the world.
Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house.
His disciples approached him and said,
“Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for Your presence. For walking with me, and guiding me through Your Word, inspired devotions and song. You are always watching and listening to my thoughts and prayers about and for me and mine, the state of Your Church and the world.
You remind me for now the world is the evil ones. We are to keep our focus on You. Weeding our mind and what we watch, listen and do.
Gracious God, thank you for the new wine you give us through Christ. Thank you for choosing to put your new wine in us. Help us, we pray, to choose the new wineskins you have for us. When you’re leading us to something new, something unknown, even scary, may we trust you to be faithful.
O Lord, pour into us once again your new wine, for your purposes and glory.

Woe to those who plan iniquity,

Gospel Matthew 12:14-21

The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus
to put him to death.
When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place.
Many people followed him, and he cured them all,
but he warned them not to make him known.
This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved in whom I delight;
I shall place my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
He will not contend or cry out,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
A bruised reed he will not break,
a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory.
And in his name the Gentiles will hope.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You once again meeting me through song, devotion and Your Word. Walking me through all the thoughts on my mind. Allowing me to sway back and forth, looking inward and outward, backwards and forwards. Yet always bringing me back into to focus on You.
There is so much going on and being thrown at us, that being overwhelmed and confused is often the state we walk in. For me, and I can only imagine others seeking to follow You. Surrounding themselves in You, and paying just as much attention to what’s going on within Your Church as they do with what’s going on around it. It can be exhausting. But we must rest in You, seek You, trust You and stay in Your presence, if we are to truly follow You.
Lord Jesus, thank you for the new wine you offer. Thank you for the good news of the kingdom of God. Thank you for the renewing work of your Spirit in my life.
Help me, Lord, to continue to receive and respond to your new wine. Show me the “wineskins” of my life that need to be retired. Help me to be open to the new work you want to do in and through me today, and in the days ahead.

Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls. In Jesus name I pray. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Apostles (Nicene) Creed
