Gospel reading: Matthew 2:1-12
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,
in the days of King Herod,
behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
“Where is the newborn king of the Jews?
We saw his star at its rising
and have come to do him homage.”
When King Herod heard this,
he was greatly troubled,
and all Jerusalem with him.
Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people,
He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea,
for thus it has been written through the prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
since from you shall come a ruler,
who is to shepherd my people Israel.”
Then Herod called the magi secretly
and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance.
He sent them to Bethlehem and said,
“Go and search diligently for the child.
When you have found him, bring me word,
that I too may go and do him homage.”
After their audience with the king they set out.
And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them,
until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
and on entering the house
they saw the child with Mary his mother.
They prostrated themselves and did him homage.
Then they opened their treasures
and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod,
they departed for their country by another way.

Daily Catholic Wisdom…

To many people, the Bible is simply a giant book that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. That’s a shame, because it’s actually a beautiful story. In fact, it’s our story. It’s the story of where we come from, what went wrong, and God’s incredible merciful plan to save us and make everything right again.

A prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You the gift of family. For using them to touch me and inspire me to grow closer to You. To want to trust You more. To learn how to pray. Your blessings are beyond measure. I’m humbled by Your grace and mercy. And pray for those souls still searching. Yes I have doubts and my lack of understanding can somethings fuel that doubt. But I fight to trust in Jesus. His Gospel. The Bible. For the seed You planted in me knows to trust You, even when I don’t understand how. Taking it one moment, one step at a time. Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls. In Jesus name I pray. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Lords Prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

O my Jesus

O my Jesus, have mercy on us. Forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Take all souls into heaven, especially, those most in need of thy mercy.
Amen.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

1 John 3:9
No one who is begotten by God commits sin,
because God’s seed remains in him;
he cannot sin because he is begotten by God.

John 1:35-42
John was standing with two of his disciples,
and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God.”
The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.
Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them,
“What are you looking for?”
They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher),
“where are you staying?”
He said to them, “Come, and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying,
and they stayed with him that day.
It was about four in the afternoon.
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter,
was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.
He first found his own brother Simon and told him,
“We have found the Messiah,” which is translated Christ.
Then he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said,
“You are Simon the son of John;
you will be called Cephas,” which is translated Peter.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for the seed You planted in my heart. The seed to need, know, follow and have a relationship with You. Thank You for all Your blessings and each of mine. Thank You for always being with me to correct and convict me. For showing me ‘no matter how tough the day may be, I can always have hope . . . because in You, my story has an amazing ending. And knowing that will brighten even my darkest day.’ For getting my mind off of me and on to others. Praying without ceasing for them, for all those still lost in this world under the sun; hurting, suffering, persecuted and alone. I pray for them. For Your Church, for this Country and their leaders. A prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for Your patients with me. For Your grace by blessing me with things I don’t deserve, and Your mercy that withholds what I do deserve. For each of mine. For the gift of a family filled in love for each other and You. It is Your love that feeds and inspired our love for each other. Help us let this love overflow to others, even our enemies and those that may try to hurt us. For we must show the same patients with others, You show with us. We must let Your light shine through us. This is my prayer today, let Your light shine through me and mine. Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls. In Jesus name I pray. A prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, thank You for all Your blessings and each of mine.

As we flip the calendar, from 2019 to 2020. Some of us will make New Year’s resolutions, promising to do better in the days ahead. And some of us might actually keep these promises . . . for a few days, anyway.

But our hearts long for more than just a new year, a new date, or some new resolutions. Our world can feel so old, so caught in injustice, so wracked by violence, so wounded by poverty, so tainted by evil.

But it’s not just our world that needs to be made new. We need this. We yearn for renewal in mind, heart, body, and spirit. We want to leave behind our sin and shame. We need you to make us new, Lord!

Thus, on this first day of the new year, we hold tight to the promise of 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Yes, Lord, let us experience your new creation. Let the newness of your justice and peace cover the earth. Make my heart new. Fill me with new confidence, new trust, new love.

O God, a year from now when I look back at 2020, may I be able to say: Yes, I have experienced your new creation, however imperfectly. Yes, I have been made new through your grace in Jesus Christ!

Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls. In Jesus name I pray. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
