Words about Jesus
To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner," and "A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall"; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:7-9

Words of Jesus
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.”
John 14:5-6, 12

Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He may prolong my life, He may shorten it, He knows what He is about. He may make my spirits sink, hide the future from me, still He knows what He is about.
— John Henry Cardinal Newman

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day and these Words of enlightenment. For I have know the power that is in His name Jesus Christ; the name that when spoken convicts. And as Peter writes today, He has become the head corner stone that will make us stumble and fall because of our nature; but He is the one in whose name we can come to You in and with to ask and pray through the Spirit for the courage to speak it openly and the heart to do the works that He did. Give me courage Lord God, liken my heart to that of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

~*~*\n\nWords of Jesus\nJesus said to them\, "Do not be afraid\; go and te
ll my brethren to go to Galilee\, and there they will see me."\nMatthew 28
:10\n\nThere is no sin or wrong that gives a man a foretaste of hell in th
is life as anger and impatience.\n– St.Catherine of Sienna\n\nAbba\, Fath
er\, Lord God\, I look at the Passion of Christ with alert eyes and attent
ive heart. Alert to learn how to see and hear the message of Christ and at
tentive to understand the feelings that are invoked in me by Jesus as well
as the Disciples\, Priest and participants. I listen to every word Jesus
spoke over and over hoping they will create His image in my mind and heart
\; I put myself in the place of each Disciple and wonder what I would do.
I compare the Priest and people to us today and wonder what we would do if
Jesus was here today. Would we believe more and doubt less. I mean I beli
eve Jesus was man\, yet You and He are one\, so as man through His obedien
ce He overcame His human nature\, but there has to be more. Then I look at
the Disciple who lived\, walked and saw His miracles first hand\, yet the
y could not overcome that same nature on their own\, it took Your Holy Spi
rit within them for them to be all that Jesus had prepared them to be. I s
ee and hear the blight of the people and try to discern everything through
the Words of Jesus. But most of all I try to quite my mind and calm my h
eart so that Jesus can grow and work within me\; I try not to think that I
such a weak sinner I could know how to interpret His message but seek the
help of the Holy Spirit to guide me. For I also see and know my nature an
d all the weakness which shows itself in me as lack of discipline\, and th
e fear which creates doubt causing me to seek understanding of that which
I cannot understand and causing me to be impatient and get anger at that w
hich I cannot control rather than living in acceptance of Thy will which i
s what I seek. Though I know I am unworthy of His Passion I cling to that
gift that I know I could never obtain on my own. And I continue to ask th
at You through Him in the Spirit that You would continue to mold me into H
is image\, and in doing so help me be an example of His living in me. All
these things I share with You today so that together I may become that whi
ch You intended me to be. For I was lost\, but now I am home having found
myself with You in Jesus Christ my Lord And Savior giving all praise and g
lory to You my Father\, Jesus the Son\, and the Holy Spirit which I know l
ives in me\, Amen. \n\nGenesis 1:1 <http://www.ewtn.com/vbible/search.asp?

Words of Jesus

And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"

Luke 2:49

The good thoughts which God gives you in prayer are relics. Gather them carefully together in order to translate them into acts, and you will gladden the heart of God.

— St. Vincent de Paul

Abba, Father, Lord God, I surround myself with the promise of Your Word; I listen for any spoken message from every source, I look for any story and testimony that will help me feel closure to You. Yet the feeling comes and goes; just as the day becomes night, the sound becomes silence and the business becomes solitude. I use try to use the darkness, silence and solitude to reflect on what You have taught me through Jesus, I look to You to help me become His image in the Holy Spirit. Then a light is turned on, a sound rings out and the business under the sun breaks in to my quite rest, just as I feel I am uniting with You in the moment; and all of a sudden I feel disconnected from You. My reaction is to turn away and close myself off as if the light was to bright, the sound to high pitch, the need an annoyance until the Spirit and the Message of Jesus awakens me as sudden thunder from above and convicts me as the crackle of a bolt of lightning. I am torn between meditating on my reaction and putting it behind me as just another lost opportunity to serve You; I mean while I want to learn from my failings, but do not want to dwell in them. So in shame I try and look to You from help and guidance, but my shame is hard to turn into humility. So I try to remind myself that I just need to immediately get back to than moment of oneness, and grasp onto the yoke of Jesus where no burden is to heavy or great, even the shame of things done wrong and failure of doing right. O my Lord God for the sake of His sorrowful passion have mercy on me and on the whole world. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
40 And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.

45 Then he will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.
Matthew 25:40,45

Abba, Father, Lord God, You continue to show and teach me; with eyes wide open I look for You next lesson and as often You remind me it is Your will not mine. For my human nature always sees from my perception of things inward to what I expect or need; whereas in Jesus my spiritual nature always sees from my heart outward to what others need and don’t expect. O how I ask and pray that You would continue the work You have begun in me, so that my eyes learn to only see outward. Letting my heart strengthen my faith, and in that faith always find hope, and with this faith and hope always be able to love unconditionally. O healer of body and soul, cure the sickness in my spirit so that I may grow in holiness through Your constant care. These things I ask, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Leviticus 19:1-2, 11-18
1 And the LORD said to Moses, 2 "Say to all the congregation of the people of Israel, You shall be holy; for I the LORD your God am holy. 11 "You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. 12 And you shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD. 13 "You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning. 14 You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the LORD. 15 "You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand forth against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD. 17 "You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason with your neighbor, lest you bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
Psalm 19:8-10, 15
8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Matthew 25:31-46
31 "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. 34 Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? 39 And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’ 40 And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, `Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?’ 45 Then he will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.‘ 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Words of Jesus
And he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors.  But not so with you; rather let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.  For which is the greater, one who sits at table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves.

Luke 22:25-27

The Devil temps us so that he may ruin. God allows him to tempt so that He may perfect us in virtue.
— Ambrose of Milan

O Jesus, I withdraw in spirit with You into the desert; teach me how to fight the triple concupiscence of the flesh, pride, and avarice.

Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7
7 then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, `You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but God said, `You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.
Psalm 51:3-6, 12-13, 17
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in thy sight, so that thou art justified in thy sentence and blameless in thy judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. 12 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners will return to thee. 17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Romans 5:12-19
12 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned — 13 sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16 And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. 17 If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18 Then as one man’s trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man’s act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Matthew 4:1-11
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." 4 But he answered, "It is written, `Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.‘" 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, `He will give his angels charge of you,’ and `On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’" 7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, `You shall not tempt the Lord your God." 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; 9 and he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! for it is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’" 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

"Yet even now," says the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; 13 and rend your hearts and not your garments."

Words of Jesus

It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

John 6:63

When the temptation is violent, it is useful to renew our purpose of never consenting to any sin, saying: My God I wish to die rather than offend thee. My Jesus, help me; Mary pray for me.

— Alphonsus Liguori

Abba, Father, Lord God, during this Lenten season help me to talk by faith with hope and in love with You, all Your creations. Help me to use this time of discipline and meditation to strengthen my spirit, my mind and my body; likening my heart to Christ Jesus in all I think, see, say and do…In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Joel 2:12-18<../vbible/search.asp?abbr=Joel&ch=2&bv1=12&ev1=18>

12 "Yet even now," says the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; 13 and rend your hearts and not your garments." Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repents of evil. 14 Who knows whether he will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, a cereal offering and a drink offering for the LORD, your God? 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; 16 gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the elders; gather the children, even nursing infants. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her chamber. 17 Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep and say, "Spare thy people, O LORD, and make not thy heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, `Where is their God?'" 18 Then the LORD became jealous for his land, and had pity on his people.

Psalm 51:3-6, 12-14, 17<../vbible/search.asp?abbr=Ps&ch=51&bv1=3&ev1=6&bv2=12&ev2=14&bv3=17&ev3=17>

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of thy deliverance. 17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

2 Corinthians 5:20<../vbible/search.asp?abbr=_2Cor&ch=5&bv1=20&ev1=21> – 6:2<../vbible/search.asp?abbr=_2Cor&ch=6&bv1=1&ev1=2>

20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18<../vbible/search.asp?abbr=Matt&ch=6&bv1=1&ev1=6&bv2=16&ev2=18>

1 "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 5 "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 16 "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
