Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away…He does nothing in vain… He knows what He is about. He may make my spirits sink, hide the future from me, still He knows what He is about.

Words of Jesus

And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Hero'di-ans, to entrap him in his talk. And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why put me to the test? Bring me a coin, and let me look at it." And they brought one. And he said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" They said to him, "Caesar's." Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at him.

Mark 12: 13 – 17

Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He may prolong my life, He may shorten it, He knows what He is about. He may make my spirits sink, hide the future from me, still He knows what He is about.

— John Henry Cardinal Newman

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day filled with Your mercy and grave, and for this time together, when I can come before You and reconcile myself for yesterday and ready myself for today. For as St. Peter writes I am 'zealous to be found by You without spot or blemish, and at peace.' Reciting the words of the Psalmist I knpw that 'the years of my life are threescore and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and I fly away.' So I 'satisfy myself in the morning with Thy steadfast love, that I may rejoice and be glad' for I know this day will be spent with You. Oh that You would bless me indeed this and every day, and expand my territory, that Your hand will be with me to keep me from evil and from causing pain; and that because I choose to walk in Your light, I hope and pray that someone will see Your light on me, and also seek to chose to turn to Thee. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

And he began to speak to them in parables. "A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the wine press, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. And they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and him they killed; and so with many others, some they beat and some they killed. He had still one other, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them, saying, `They will respect my son.' But those tenants said to one another, `This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this scripture: `The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"

Mark 12: 1 – 12

When the Lord ascended into heaven, He departed from our sight, so that we might return to our hearts and find Him there.

— St. Augustine

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for a new day, for the comfort of having my son back home if only for a while, for letting me feel You hand at work in my relationships with those I love most, as I seek to be one with You, and allow You to You one within me in Jesus through the Spirit, and now for the first time begin to feel how my love ones can be one with us. It is has St. Peter writes today 'Your divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of You who called us to Your own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us Your precious and very great promises, that through these I may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partaker of the divine nature. For this very reason I will make every effort to supplement my faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.' For as the Psalmist sing You are '"my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust." In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.' "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it."

Matthew 7: 21 – 27

— St. Alphonsus Liguori

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day, for all Your blessings and for Your Holy Spirit that through Jesus lives within me keeping me connected to You and convicted at the foot of the Cross of Jesus if I wonder off the narrow path that I have chosen to follow. For You and I know I cannot walk it without You, and since it is You I seek first, I need Your help and continued blessings to be what I am, not what I have been, and to guide and direct me through the challenges and choices that lay before me. For in my heart I feel that at Your inspiration and through Your commandments which became the laws in the words of the Prophets and then at Your command the Word became life in Jesus and now lives within each of us whether awakened or not, in the Holy Spirit, is all about oneness with You our source or source. This oneness so easily broken under the sun, is the ripening of spirit being within our human being through a dying to the desires of the body and the rising in the spirit with Jesus to the point where we are His image under the sun and become one with Him, who is one with You, and we then are one with You in the Spirit which no longer reacting to the nature of the body, but controlling and using the body to fulfill Your will for me which starts in being one with You. Always able to think before speaking or acting – What would Jesus do? In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

Jesus provides for his mother from the cross

While the soldiers were doing this, Jesus' mother was standing near the cross with her sister, and with them Mary, the wife of Clopas and Mary of Magdala. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing by her side, and said to her, "Look, there is your son!" And then he said to the disciple, "And there is your mother!" And from that time the disciple took Mary into his own home.

John 19:25-27

My soul: let then the Will of God be accomplished in thee. With Thy help I can do all. Serve the Lord, trust in His Mercy: This will soothe thy pains.

— St Teresa of Avila

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for making Your presence so visible to me, for I never want to test or question You as my human being would seeks to do out of its doubtful, insecure, selfish yet prideful essence. You know this from these times together each morning yet You touch me and show me You are there whether it be through the consciousness on the moment that allows me to feel and then act accordingly to the opportunity or challenge that all of a sudden is before me, or most visibly in the way my spirit being which has as its essence You in Jesus through the Holy Spirit interacts and relates with the daily readings so that in these moments of consciousness my actions are according to Your will and essence not mine. Yesterday is such a good example, You know that some days I pray then read, others I read then pray, will yesterday I prayed and before I could read the day started and off I went. Yet I kept trying throughout the day to stop and read the readings, but one thing led to another and as much as I saw Your hand in the opportunities You placed before me, my human being kept trying to be what it is not what I am until I woke early this morning totally doubting everything, not knowing what to do and feeling that whatever I do would be wrong yet being driven by my selfishness and pride to strike out or back. So I went to the words of Jesus and listened to the Gospels in the audio New Testament 'Word of Promise'; driven by fear of myself or love of Jesus I can hope think it was the later until I read the readings from yesterday and saw and felt the words I prayed were the words from the Gospel reading. Then I knew it was love of Jesus. Not that I am not afraid of myself for I walk in constant fear of being or acting what I am not, but as You know when asked would I rather have someone love or fear me, I choose love; while I think under the sun many would ask why or say it is better to be feared, I feel my essence is from You for in choosing Jesus I am realizing I am not from this world under the sun. And while I often ask and question the many times it says in the Old Testament how we are to fear You, I choose to follow the words of Jesus that command me to love You above all and first! So again thank You Lord God for these visible signs, may they carry me forward today in the spirit of the essence that I am, not the of where I am. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Matthew 11: 25 – 30

1 John 4: 7 – 16

7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

16 So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

We must understand then, that even though God doesn't always give us what we want, He always gives us what we need for our salvation.

— St Augustine

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this new day, a day to hope. My hope as always is that in giving thanks for all the blessings I have been given I will be lifted out of the worries and anxieties under the sun to walk this day with eyes of faith. Eyes that feel to see the good in all and eyes reflect the feeling of good that comes from walking with faith, hope and love which is the fruit I as a branch will yield when I walk connect to You the vine. For what good is it to worry about this or that, and the be anxious over what has or may, if I know that apart from You I am and have nothing. So I will try and fight to reach up and grasp onto the yoke of Jesus where I know the burdens under the sun will fade away as my heart is likened to His and my focus shifts from me to others, and my spirit trust in Your promise knowing and needing to trust no man and seek no counsel under the sun for I only need to trust You and come to You at the foot of the Cross of Jesus. I ask for Your hand to guide my thoughts, words and actions and again bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, keeping me from evil, and from causing any pain. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimae'us, a blind beggar, the son of Timae'us, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; rise, he is calling you." And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" And the blind man said to him, "Master, let me receive my sight." And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

Mark 10:46-52

— St Francis de Sales

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day, new moment rises with the sun giving birth to new opportunities filled with choices and challenges to work out my faith, faith filled with hope and rooted in love. Let love be my first choice today, and as I first prayed several years ago, even if I only get one thing done today, let it be to love You Lord God. For You are the vine and I am but a branch, a branch which cannot and will not yield fruit unless I am connected to You through Jesus in the Spirit. For there will be challenges to face and choices to make, so I am must be rooted in love, love for the other; for who walks under the sun that does not want to be loved above all. And if I am able to love unconditionally, who will be able to question my intent, in this I will have hope, hope filled with faith, faith that what You have done in me through Jesus and those who loved me unconditionally will open hearts to You through Jesus by the Spirit that I believe is planted in the heart of everyone under the sun. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus written in red

And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise." And James and John, the sons of Zeb'edee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Mark 10:32-45

What then must we think of the sin of those who curse themselves in moments of worry and difficulty? This is an appalling crime which is contrary to nature and to grace, for both nature and grace inspire us with love for ourselves. Those who curse themselves are like insane people who die by their own hands!

— St John Vianney

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day, another opportunity to grow in You and through Jesus in the Spirit feel You grow in me. Through thought and meditation of I feel the depth of understanding that lies within Jesus' Words and the thoughts communicated in the words and actions of the twelve disciples before and after the passion and resurrection of Jesus. At first reading I again feel You providing me with words to comfort and inspire me; to lift me out of the shadows I create in my mind from yesterday, the doubt, worry, anxiousness, and even fear which seeks to expression through selfishness which seeds itself in pride that serves only to diminish and extinguish faith, and with faith hope, and with hope love; for I cannot love like Jesus if I lack hope in Jesus, and I cannot hope in Jesus if I lose my faith in Jesus. For faith is worked out in works, and these works worked out through faith. But then I feel the truth that Jesus is trying to teach me, a truth filled with knowledge about myself, and wisdom about what and how I must practice preparation and readiness to server and stop expecting to be server in any way or by anyone except in and through my Lord and Savior Jesus. So I seek Your help in limiting my thought and action to the moment, not getting into the future or dwelling in the past; for it is here in Jesus that I will find what I need to serve. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
