Words of Jesus

Peter began to say to him, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you." Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first."

Mark 10:28-31

If things go well let's rejoice, blessing God, who makes them prosper. And if they go wrong? Let's rejoice, blessing God, who allows us to share in the sweetness of His Cross.

— St Josemaria Escriva

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for this day, a chance to overcome myself through faith worked out in works driven by hope wrapped in love. Taking St. Peters advice I will 'gird up my mind, be sober, set my hope fully upon the grace that is coming to me at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As an obedient child, I will be aware and work to not be conformed to the passions of my former ignorance, but as Jesus is holy, seek to be holy myself in all your conduct, word and thought ; since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."' I ask that You help me use these words to lift me out of the shadows created in my mind by my doubt so that I can walk in the light of Jesus able to as St. Josemaria tells us today 'rejoicing in all the blessings You have given me as well as maintaining a joyous spirit even when things go wrong by placing myself at the feet of Jesus. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: `Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth." And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." At that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, "Then who can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

Mark 10:17-27

Humility is the safeguard of chastity. In the matter of purity, there is no greater danger than one not fearing danger of falling. It is almost an infallible sign that he will fall, and with great danger to his soul.

— St Philip Neri

Abba, Father, Lord God, hunger and thirsty for Your Word I came before You this day and grateful and aware I write You now. Grateful for the treasure hidden in today's readings, a treasure truly greater than any riches under the sun. Aware that once again You are showing me You are in me through the Spirit, You know me better than I know myself. Yet without learning how to work with the Spirit through Jesus I will never come to know then understand how to walk as Jesus is trying to teach me. There is so much to know yet one thing to understand, and I feel that is FAITH. For You have shown me how faith brings forth hope and hope produces love. Yet I feel I must still learn more about how to understand how 'works' is related to faith and I how I must work at finding this understanding. For as Peter writes today we have 'an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Without having seen him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls.' Holy Father help me, through the Spirit in Jesus teach me what I need to learn and if it be fear of You rather than love of You, so be it. For I feel the words of the Psalmist 'The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice. Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who have pleasure in them. He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.' In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

"the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."… "As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven"

Words of Jesus

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh." The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever."

John 6:51-58

Help yourself during troubled periods by reading holy books for this reading provides excellent food for the soul and conduces to great progress along the path of perfection.

— St Pio of Pietrelcina

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for the light of a new day, for as the morning sun begins a new day, a new chance, full of choices, so too am I made new through and in Jesus; and so I continue to seek to surround myself with holy books filled with Your Word and the words and expressions of those who seek the oneness with You in the Trinity of the Holy Father, Son and Spirit. I ask You to help me 'remember all the ways which You LORD God have led me' during my years of under the sun, 'that You have humbled me, testing me to know what was in my heart, and whether I want to chose to keep Your commandments, or not.' 'And You humbled me and let me learn to understand my hunger' and to 'know that I do not live by bread alone, but that I live by everything that proceeds out of the Your mouth.' For You 'send forth Your command to the earth; Your word runs swiftly.' And blessed am I that I am able to feel the Your Word; 'because there is one bread, and we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread' for which You are the Source of Source, my Source, I am only complete when I am one with You, no matter what may be going on under the sun. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

And he who sat upon the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true."

Revelation 21:5

Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

John 10:25-30

Always be doing something worthwhile, then the Devil will always find you busy and more difficult to distract.

— St Francis of Assisi

Abba, Father, Lord God, I am thankful Lord, I am aware of You being, yet I wrestle with fear or doubt. Thinking that fear has no place in our relationship for it is driven by love, yet doubt breeds fears. But it is it doubt in You or in what You want and expect from me that causes the confusion that surrounds me today. Or is it just my weak nature struggling with my human being unable to accept the mistakes that I have made yet unwilling to exercise the practice of discipline that it takes to avoid making the same mistakes again or the realty that no matter what I do or how much I practice, I will never be mistakes free. Yet is it making a mistake or being disobedient that haunts me; is it the fear that I cannot be or the doubt of how I should be. For I feel You have shown me and given me insight into the words we use to express what we (I) hear and say so that I can understand and interpret what it is that we (I) should feel! For where there may be many words there is only one feeling. And it is feeling that connects me in the Spirit through Jesus to You; this I do believe even when I do not do what I have heard You expect me to do. So I wrestle with what I have heard and try to know what I should and do feel; contemplating how to know if it is my human being telling me or my spiritual being feeling me until I cry out – show me Lord, touch me help me feel what to do. For I feel I am awakened for a reason and You are enlightening me for a purpose. Help me through this stage as the fire of Your touch purifies and readies me for what You have planned for me; help me feel what to do, to know when to wait and when to act. Do not let my human being corrupt the purification and development of my spirit being for I know that it is only in the spirit that I can feel my connection to You help me to walk under the sun in this human being awakened and aware of the spirit being that is the breath I breathe and let each breath I breathe feel the connection to You. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder."

Mark 10:1-12

— St Thomas More

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for softening my heart and awakening me to strengthen hidden in faith, and courage found in hope, that produces unconditional love as its fruit whose source I believe can only be possible in You through Jesus worked out with the Holy Spirit within me. Help me to remain humble in spirit through the knowledge that is born from that faith filled in hope that the wisdom shared with me by Your Word through Jesus will become visible and cause others to ask, seek and open themselves to the daily practice of walking in Your presence aware of the human condition caused by its nature and the fulfilling grace and mercy that flows from being connected with You. For only here can we find this faith worked out in hope expressed in love that can help us 'not to grumble, against one another', nor dare to judge; for 'behold, the Judge is standing at the door'. And 'above all', help me, 'not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath, but let my yes be yes and my no be no, so that I may not fall under condemnation.' For only You do not 'deal with us according to our sins, nor requite us according to our iniquities.' In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward." "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea." "Indeed, if it is your own hand that spoils your faith, you must cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to keep both your hands and go to the rubbish-heap, if your foot spoils your faith, you must cut it off. It is better to enter life on one foot than to keep both your feet and be thrown on to the rubbish-heap. And if your eye leads you astray, pluck it out. It is better for you to go one-eyed into the kingdom of God than to keep both eyes and be thrown on to the rubbish-heap, where 'their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched'. For everyone will be salted by fire." "Salt is a very good thing; but if it should lose its saltiness, what can you do to restore its flavor? You must have salt in yourselves, and live at peace with each other."

Mark 9:41-50

The affairs of God are accomplished little by little and almost imperceptibly. The Spirit of God is neither violent nor hasty. He does all things in His time.

— St Vincent de Paul

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for Your blessings and this day, the birthday of my baby girl who through Jesus opened my heart to what true love is and began the process and chain of events that resulted in the awakening my soul through my spirit being to Your presence within me through the Holy Spirit and convicted me of my to have 'salt' and to restore its flavor daily through this time with You. Today's readings are filled with words of warning and fact, in wisdom and knowledge. For I know what it is like to be in the rubbish-heap, but for Your grace and mercy, the love of Jesus and my baby girl would remained. So with an open heart, awakened spirit and thankful soul I give praise and thank You Lord God. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us." But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us."

Mark 9:38-40

We should even go beyond doing what is required in order to avoid scandal.

— St. Basil the Great

Abba, Father, Lord God, I am thankful for all Your blessings and I see and hear the signs You provide me. I feel the work You are performing in me has put me on the path I was meant to be; yet I wonder if in fighting off worry and fear of the realities and responsibilities under the sun I am doing the right thing? So I ask for Your guidance and for a discerning heart and mind that will not let me hide behind or within the peace and comfort I have with You; but that will challenge me to grow and walk this path with confidence and courage that comes from serving Your will and doing whatever I do in the name of Jesus Christ with all honor and glory to Him who saved me by convicting me of the errors of my ways and started the process of preparation which I know has created visible change within me and now is opening awareness in others . For I need Your help to keep my intentions pure and righteous so that what I seek will not be for my gain or comfort and in no way satisfies the desires I truly work to die to, but for those that need or do not yet understand the truth in the readings today. For as the Psalmist sings we all see but few walk in true understand worked out in faith, hope and love that 'even the wise die, the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others.' So I need Your help making sure I do not put off what needs or should be done today for as written in James today I am but a 'mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes' and so I want to accomplish Your purpose for me, never again boasting of myself but all in Jesus name, guided by Him to do what is right in His name always. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
