Words of Jesus

And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me."

John 12:44-50

The Lord sends us tribulation and infirmities to give us the means of paying the immense debts we have contracted with Him. Those who have good sense receive them joyfully, for they think more of the good which they derive from them than of the pain they experience on account of them.

— St Vincent Ferrer

Abba, Father, Lord God, today it is with thanks giving and praise that I open my eyes this day. Focused on being joyful for all the good that with Jesus in my heart I experience despite the trials and tribulations; whether of my own accord or Your will. While I do not agree with or claim to understand all of what St. Vincent says today; I know that the Words of Jesus are truth and life. And as long as I keep my heart open and seek Your presence by practicing walking in the light, I will overcome and find the good. For You are good Lord God, and only good comes from above. So it is with excitement for the visibility that Word that Pope Benedicts visit brings to America and the eyes and hears of the world that I pray the words of the Psalmist today 'that Thy way may be known upon earth, and Thy saving power among all nations'. In the name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, I pray and give thanks while asking that Your loving hand touch all I lift up to You with peace, comfort, contentment, and most of all faith, hope and love. The message of Pope Benedict, the Word of Jesus, Your Words, Amen.

Words of Jesus

It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

John 10:22-30

The merit of crosses does not consist in their weight, but the manner in which they are borne. It may show greater virtue to bear a cross of straw than a very hard and heavy one because the light ones are also the most hidden and therefore least comfortable to our inclination, which always seeks what is showy.

— St Francis de Sales

Abba, Father, Lord God, I am thankful for all Your blessings; and always seeking Your continued grace and mercy as I look to You through Jesus' example for peace and compassion this day. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"you heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 1:5

And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.

John 10:16

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Matthew 28:19

Souls eager to arrive at union with God must accept, without excusing themselves, every correction or rebuke, even if not wholly deserved, and even if wholly unjust. It takes great humility to find oneself unjustly condemned and be silent, and to do this is to imitate the Lord, who set us free from all our sins.

— St Teresa of Avila

Abba, Father, Lord God, today my mind is filled with hope in Pope Benedicts visit to America; I know You work within each of us in different ways as is Your callings. But I feel Your hand at work in Pope John Paul and Pope Benedict and the Christian Churches; and I think as Solomon proclaimed 'There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens'. So I keep my eyes, ears, mind and heart open to You, always seeking, always trying to prepare myself to be a worthy Sheppard for all Your blessings through my faith in You the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit which I know is alive within me, with the hope that You may find me worthy to serve You so that I may make amends for all I did wrong and failed to do right, always with and in unconditional love and humility. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

If you see that you have not yet suffered tribulations, consider it certain that you have not begun to be a true servant of God; for the Apostle says plainly that all who choose to live piously in Christ, shall suffer persecutions.

Words of Jesus

but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

John 10:1-10

If you see that you have not yet suffered tribulations, consider it certain that you have not begun to be a true servant of God; for the Apostle says plainly that all who choose to live piously in Christ, shall suffer persecutions.

— St Augustine

Abba, Father, Lord God, for I was a straying sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of my soul Jesus Christ; and I can say in faith and with hope that…

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

But there are some of you that do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."

John 6:63-65

To rely on our talents is a cause of great loss. When someone places confidence in his own prudence, knowledge, and intelligence, God, To make him know and see his insufficiency, withdraws from him His help and leaves him to work by himself. This is often why our undertakings miserably fail.

— St Vincent de Paul

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for awakening the seed You planted in me at conception and took possession of at baptism never giving up and never abandoning me. For I do believe You planted Your seed in each of us; the need to know and love You, to have a relationship with You. But as Jesus spoke in today's Gospel 'some do not believe'. So blessed am I that You through Your grace and mercy have granted me the awareness to open my heart to Jesus and as St. Vincent states today showing and teaching me how not to rely on my own talents but to seek Your will and Jesus teachings to know, nurture and develop the physical and spiritual gifts that You have given me. So here I am as with every day, starting my day with and in You; asking and praying that You would help me stay in Your presence throughout this day and that You would hear my thoughts and prayers for those I love, know and may try to harm or take advantage of me, And in all things teaching me acceptance through faith, giving me hope through knowledge that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and forgiveness through love. For if You would do all this for me a sinner by nature and forgive me, how can I keep that gift for me when by giving it away I may be blessed to awaken someone to what You have given me. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name, which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which thou hast given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth. As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.

John 17:11-19

Everyone, past, present and future will be judged. Now, then, is the time for mercy, while the time to come will be the time for justice only. For that reason, the present time is ours to repent, but the future time will be God's alone for judgment. While there is breath there is hope.

— St Thomas Aquinas

Abba, Father, Lord God, O how my mind is a flutter with this and that, but I try to slow my thought and stop to give thanks and praise to You who through Jesus in the Spirit I do hope to become one by the faith in His Words and love of His gift through His passion. Today's readings fuel my flutter and again lead me to ask about fear and love. For as much as I read how the Prophets feared You through and in Jesus I only see love for in Him I feel no fear. So as in the Psalms 'My soul makes its boast in the You LORD; let the afflicted hear and be glad. O magnify Your presence within me, and let me exalt Your name! I sought You LORD, and You answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. I look to You, and feel radiant; so my face shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard me, and saved me out of all my troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who love you, and delivers them. O taste and see that the LORD is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in him! O love the LORD, you his saints, for those who love him have no want!' This I pray in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.

John 6:44

When we find ourselves being carried away by anger or tempted by some other passion, let us reflect on what privileges we have been granted, what Spirit it is whose presence we enjoy, and this thought will check in us those unruly passions.

— St John Chrysostom

Abba, Father, Lord God, in amazement, filled with hope built on faith in Jesus and love for You, I give thanks and praise. That You would continue to bless me. While I still stumble and in the words of St. John today, if I do not stop and reflect on these blessings, I may fall; I will rise in Jesus for I feel the seed You have planted in my heart and I know this that the more one feels the stronger ones faith, and the greater ones hope, and freer one loves. Blessed am I that the Words of Jesus today are alive and growing within me. Always conscious of my nature, I turned to You through Jesus in the Spirit taking His yoke and seeking only His ways towards Your will. Trying always to fulfill that will, but never again forgetting that I am Your steward under the sun. So with this mind set and focus I start this day and again on my knees lift up in prayer the names of those in need of Your healing, comfort, understanding, rest and peace. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
