Words of Jesus

But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day.me;

John 6:36-39

No one is a martyr for a conclusion, no one is a martyr for an opinion; it is faith that makes martyrs.

— John Henry Cardinal Newman

Abba, Father, Lord God, I try to ask not for things from under the sun but for understanding and acceptance. Not that I have achieved any control and or discipline to the desires of the flesh and selfishness or tamed the pride and anger that has consumed me but because I believe the Words of Jesus and He is 'the the bread of life; he who comes to Him shall not hunger, and he who believes in Him shall never thirst'. So this and only this I seek and ask in prayer each day that You liken me to the image of Jesus and help me hear, act and fulfill Your will for me, always blessing me with the gift of understanding and acceptance in a way that Jesus' presence within me be visible and felt by those You place in my path. So again I say, I try not to test You or ask that You stop the suffering and illnesses under the sun or that You judge and bring an end to the evil that exists, but to keep my mind, body and spirit consummated In Jesus. Blessed am I in this and from this state I my knees I do lift up in prayer the names of those in need of Your healing, comfort, understanding rest and peace. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.

John 6:35

If something uncharitable is said in your presence, either speak in favor of the absent, or withdraw, or if possible, stop the conversation.

— St John Vianney

Abba, Father, Lord God, today the words of Timothy and the roots of Saul illustrate the way it still is under the sun to those who think in the ways under the sun; but I am blessed to see Jesus at work and alive. It is as if You called Timothy to prepare Saul for what he would encounter on the road to Damascus. For while Saul was full of hate and fear hiding behind the Law; Timothy was full of love and courage embracing the power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus and the new Law. While I could only pray for the faith, hope and love that filled Timothy, I can feel through Saul, Jesus living and at work in Paul. Knowing He is the bread of life and though the gate is narrow I seek it so that in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit that lives within me I too may hear Your call and act in faith with hope and unconditional love always, able to repeat the words of forgiveness that Jesus and Timothy spoke at the time of their passing from under the sun into Your Kingdom. Only You know what today and tomorrow will bring me, mine is to be ready. In the name of the Father, the Sun, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3-4

Invisible in His own nature, He became visible in ours. Beyond our grasp, He chose to come within our grasp. Existing before all time began, He began to exist in a moment in time. Incapable of suffering as God, He did not refuse to be man, capable of suffering. Immortal, He chose to be subject to the laws of death.

— Pope St Leo the Great

Abba, Father, Lord God, such simple and direct advice and wisdom in today's readings for we do need to guard and nurture Your Holy Spirit that lives within me and the best way to do this is with the humble hears, heart and eyes of a child. For when one truly decides to walk in Your light through Jesus Christ, I believe he or she must let go of the ways under the sun, realizing that under the sun only Jesus came from above and was able to walk in obedience, for while You planted the need know and love You in our hearts, by the nature of Adam we cannot walk in Your light in the ways under the sun. So I take heed of the words of the Psalmist. 'Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.' And of all I have read and heard, I feel the image of Jesus is hidden in these words of His that I meditate on most. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words about Jesus

When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Luke 24:30-31

Hide yourself in Jesus crucified, and hope for nothing except that all men be thoroughly converted to His will alone.

— St. Paul of the Cross

Abba, Father, Lord God, today I feel touched, blessed, convicted and understanding; touched again by Your visible presence, blessed in so many ways, convicted of my natural state of weakness, and understanding that in my weakness Jesus Christ is most present, I appreciate most all His blessings, I am convicted for not taken His yoke, and I see He is alive in me and capable of all that I will allow and enable Him to do. Thank You Jesus! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"It is I; do not be afraid."

John 6:20

In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance.

— St. Thomas Aquinas

Abba, Father, Lord God, I read the Psalms and I think back to my childhood Catechism and I wonder why despite all the warnings and words about fearing You, I do not feel right fearing You. I seem to regret my weakness and disobedience for what I have missed rather then what You have or might do. For it is I that turned or turn away from You, whether through the disobedience of sin or the lack or prayer and seeking Your presence. Is it that because I believe I feel it is up to me, because You have and will always be there; have the words of Jesus taken root in my heart 'it is I; do not be afraid'. I know in my darkest sinful days and ways I had faith, hope and love; I just lacked realization, the realization of what being apart from You is like compared to being with You. So know I wake each day to seek and keep Your presence trying not to ask for anything but acceptance of Your will and Your continued blessings, grace and mercy. For I know that if I cannot walk in the image of Jesus, I will never be able to be His image; if I do not love with the heart of Jesus, I will never be able to liken my to His. But I still need Your help in overcoming myself, especially my poor stewardship of Your blessings; as with my disobedience help me put this too behind me so I can live as Your good steward, so I will be able to reflect the glory and power of Your presence in me and the strengthen and courage of Jesus Christ under the sun. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:29

But you want to live a life of piety, a life above the common, and enjoy the special favor of the divine Master? You will have more to do. You advance in dignity, advance also in virtue; your obligations are more numerous. The Savior, Who loves you more and gives you more graces, demands more of you.

— St. Peter Julian Eymard

Abba, Father, Lord God, today I wake feeling content in seeking Your presence, putting You above all and knowing that all I have is given to me by You. The words of the Palmist pierce my heart today for I feel these words. For You are 'my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?' You are my 'stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?' 'One thing have I asked of You, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in Your house all the days of my life, to behold the Your beauty, and to inquire in Your temple. I believe that I shall see Your goodness in the land of the living!' Knowing that while I will suffer from doubt and fear failure, the joy and peace – contentment that I experience with You is worth the walk. So I ask that You will continue to bless me indeed and that Your hand will be with me to keep me from evil and from causing pain. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
