You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,

How well are you living out humility? In St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, he speaks of how unity and peace only arrive through a humble heart. It is in humility that you can truly pursue a bond of peace and experience its fruits in each of your relationships.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. You bring us powerful lessons for us to meditate on and work into practice in our one walk with Jesus today Lord. Thank You, for reminding us, and may we learn to walk humbly through love, rather than through lessons learned.
For the path to You requires us to live out humanity in our walk.

Formed: Letting God’s Love Inflame Our Hearts

In today’s readings, Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire.” St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians reflects on this fire for God by bringing up the need for knowledge. Reading 1 Ephesians 3:2-12

Brothers and sisters:
You have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace
that was given to me for your benefit,
namely, that the mystery was made known to me by revelation,
as I have written briefly earlier.
When you read this
you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,
which was not made known to human beings in other generations
as it has now been revealed
to his holy Apostles and prophets by the Spirit,
that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same Body,
and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel.
Of this I became a minister by the gift of God’s grace
that was granted me in accord with the exercise of his power.
To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given,
to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,
and to bring to light for all what is the plan of the mystery
hidden from ages past in God who created all things,
so that the manifold wisdom of God

“Be sure of this:
if the master of the house had known the hour
when the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
Then Peter said,
“Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?”
And the Lord replied,
“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward
whom the master will put in charge of his servants
to distribute the food allowance at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so.
Truly, I say to you, he will put him
in charge of all his property.
But if that servant says to himself,
‘My master is delayed in coming,’
and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants,
to eat and drink and get drunk,
then that servant’s master will come
on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour
and will punish the servant severely
and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
That servant who knew his master’s will
but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will
shall be beaten severely;
and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will
but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating

So I go about my day, help me reflect on what Your telling, help me become aware of something new I can be doing for Your Kingdom. Keeping me thankful for all the gifts You and given me. Conscious that You use all things and people for Your good and glory.
Continue to walk with me and mine. Teaching and guiding us. Blessing and protecting us.

Formed: Living Like St. Luke the Evangelist

On the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, we are given a glimpse of the person St. Luke was. When St. Paul was abandoned by those who were with him, St. Luke remained. His loyalty and faithfulness even under persecution show his trust in God’s providence. In the Gospel reading, the disciples are told to announce that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Today, we see how St. Luke spread this message in the way he lived his life which encourages us to do the same.

You were dead in your transgressions and sins

following the wishes of the flesh and the impulses,
and we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest.

Formed: Finding Humility in Our Works

In today’s readings, St. Paul reminds us that we are blessed with grace as a gift from Christ. Our good works are not how we are saved, but rather a fruit of being saved. The Lord works and fashions us in Christ so that we may produce good works. Through this, we are called to a deeper humility and recognition that our good works are from the grace God gives us.

Reading 1 Exodus 17:8-13

In those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel.
Moses, therefore, said to Joshua,
"Pick out certain men,
and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle.
I will be standing on top of the hill
with the staff of God in my hand."
So Joshua did as Moses told him:
he engaged Amalek in battle
after Moses had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur.
As long as Moses kept his hands raised up,
Israel had the better of the fight,
but when he let his hands rest,
Amalek had the better of the fight.
Moses’hands, however, grew tired;
so they put a rock in place for him to sit on.
Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands,
one on one side and one on the other,
so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
And Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people
with the edge of the sword.

Reading 2 2 Timothy 3:14-4:2

Beloved:
Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed,
because you know from whom you learned it,
and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures,
which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is inspired by God
and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction,
and for training in righteousness,
so that one who belongs to God may be competent,
equipped for every good work.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who will judge the living and the dead,
and by his appearing and his kingly power:
proclaim the word;
be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient;
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.

Gospel Luke 18:1-8

Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, "There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.’"
The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

Formed: Persisting in Prayer

This Sunday’s readings focus on prayer. In the Book of Exodus, Israel succeeded in battle each time Moses kept his hands raised up, and the Gospel speaks of a woman’s pleas being answered through her persistence. These readings emphasize the importance of perseverance in prayer. The Lord hears our prayers and encourages us to persist in praying at each moment. When we give up, we are like Moses lowering his hands during the battle and allowing the enemy to win.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Again today You speak to us about the importance of perseverance through prayer. Here I am Lord listening and trying to apply the lessons learned in my everyday walk. And to be an example for mine for their one walk with Jesus.
Thank You for walking with me and mine. Teaching in Your ways and how to grow closer to You. Continue to show us. Guide us. Bless and protect us. Using Your Words and those of the Saints to guide us closer to You.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities,
do not worry about how or what your defense will be
