Formed: Do Not Fear

According to Isaiah, when God comes to his people in the new exodus, the blind will see, the lame will walk, and creation will be healed. Jesus enacts this in today’s gospel reading, showing that Jesus is God, ushering in the new exodus. Do not fear, for the new exodus has come with Jesus.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. I have so much to be thankful for. You called me out of my darkness and blessed me with each of mine and theirs. Using them to bring me into a relationship with You that grows stronger each day. Through Your Word I am able to face my worries and fears with faith and hope, secure in Your love and presence. So I pray that You continue to walk with me and mine, and theirs.
I ask and pray that You open the ears and eyes of those lost, worrying about what they cannot control and fearful because they do not trust in You. Liken their hearts to Yours Jesus. Awaken them to Your Words of truth and healing. Help all of us the replace worry with faith, to find courage in hope of Your promises and strength in Your love for us.

Today’s Responsorial Psalm reminds us that God himself is our help. The psalm shows us that when we call out to God, we should recognize that he is with us. Upon recognizing his presence, we should praise him for being near to us. God’s help is always near for he is always present to us, hence why we should praise him.

Reading I Colossians 1:9-14

Brothers and sisters:
From the day we heard about you, we do not cease praying for you
and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will
through all spiritual wisdom and understanding
to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,
so as to be fully pleasing, in every good work bearing fruit
and growing in the knowledge of God,
strengthened with every power, in accord with his glorious might,
for all endurance and patience,
with joy giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share
in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.
He delivered us from the power of darkness
and transferred us to the Kingdom of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Gospel Luke 5:1-11

While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God,
he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake;
the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon,
he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore.
Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,
“Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”
Simon said in reply,
“Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets.”
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish
and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat
to come to help them.
They came and filled both boats
so that the boats were in danger of sinking.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said,
“Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”
For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him
and all those with him,
and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee,
who were partners of Simon.
Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid;
from now on you will be catching men.”
When they brought their boats to the shore,
they left everything and followed him.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
We sure live in times where we are challenged almost daily to prove we walk the Christian life. By knowledge of God’s will, bearing fruit from our good works, through endurance and patience, with an attitude of gratitude. For me these are exercises for our soul, that we must workout daily with You as our coach as we walk with You, one walk with Jesus.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
So I pray that me and mine, and theirs will be blessed with these attributes and that our walk with You will light that path for others.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.

He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.
At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.
At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, “To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for walking with me and mine, and theirs. For strengthening our faith, giving us hope and teaching us to love. Love one another, and love those not easy for us to love. For like our family is a church. So are those You put in our path and that influence and impact our lives. Good or bad is up to us. For through this time with You each morning. I learn how exercising my faith, hope and love. Is like exercising my mind and body. I must own it. I must control how I react. I can’t expect other to do for me what I am not willing to do for them.
So continue teaching and show me in Your ways Lord. Increase my faith, hope and love. Hear my prayers for mine and theirs, and all those I lift up to You throughout the day.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Today we are reminded that our peace and security is in Jesus Christ alone—not the government or any political authority. Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. My Hope in Christ! Let this Hope be what distinguishes me from those walking in fear, with hate and wanting to control everything. Let your hope shine through me with love and understanding as a light for those in darkness.
Thank You for each of mine, and theirs. Let me be an example for the to also follow and hope in Christ.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Reading I 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

We do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,
about those who have fallen asleep,
so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose,
so too will God, through Jesus,
bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord,
that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord,
will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord himself, with a word of command,
with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God,
will come down from heaven,
and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive, who are left,
will be caught up together with them in the clouds
to meet the Lord in the air.
Thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore, console one another with these words.

Gospel Luke 4:16-30

Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
 because he has anointed me
 to bring glad tidings to the poor.
 He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
 and recovery of sight to the blind,
 to let the oppressed go free,
 and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll,
he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
And all spoke highly of him
and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.
They also asked, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”
He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this proverb,
‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place
the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.’”
And he said,
“Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah
when the sky was closed for three and a half years
and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent,
but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel
during the time of Elisha the prophet;
yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this,
they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town,
and led him to the brow of the hill
on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

Formed: The Hope of Resurrection

Paul’s words to the Thessalonians today provide a tremendous hope for all Christians as they contemplate death. For Christians, loss is only temporary as we have hope in Christ Jesus to rise again. Let us hold onto this hope and grieve all loss as only temporary, knowing the hope that lies beyond through Jesus’s Resurrection.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for giving me hope. Hope in Your promise. Hope in Your Word. Hope in You. Hope for me and each of mine and theirs. So in this hope I find my why. Why… for them. For them know want to know You as I do. To find their path with You. I can’t imagine what it would be like to not believe. For even in my darkest times of disobedience, I knew You were there.
So I keep hoping and praying, for me and mine, and theirs. For our salvation and the salvation of the world. Help us be lights that point others to You.
Not our will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
