Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ
and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Now it is of course required of stewards
that they be found trustworthy.
It does not concern me in the least
that I be judged by you or any human tribunal;
I do not even pass judgment on myself;
I am not conscious of anything against me,
but I do not thereby stand acquitted;
the one who judges me is the Lord.
Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed time,
until the Lord comes,
for he will bring to light what is hidden in darkness
and will manifest the motives of our hearts,
and then everyone will receive praise from God.

Gospel Luke 5:33-39

The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
“The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers,
and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;
but yours eat and drink.”
Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast
while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
then they will fast in those days.”
And he also told them a parable.
“No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one.
Otherwise, he will tear the new
and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins,
and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,
for he says, ‘The old is good.’”

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
You called me out of my darkness and sin, and placed me on the solid ground of Your Word. With trustworthy stewards like my Mom and Dub, Paster Bud, and so many more as examples.
Thank You for loving me enough. For blessing me with each of mine. For blessing and protecting each of them. Teaching us all in Your ways. Through Your Word and with trustworthy stewards.

Hear our prayers and continue to teach, bless and protect us.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Gospel Luke 5:1-11

While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God,
he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake;
the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon,
he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore.
Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,
"Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch."
Simon said in reply,
"Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets."
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish
and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat
to come to help them.
They came and filled both boats
so that the boats were in danger of sinking.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said,
"Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."
For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him
and all those with him,
and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee,
who were partners of Simon.
Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid;
from now on you will be catching men."
When they brought their boats to the shore,
they left everything and followed him.

Oh Lord of foolish is our pride. To think that we can do anything without You. That we have the understanding and knowledge that can only come through You.
Thank You for waking me up to the truth. For blessing me beyond measure when I didn’t deserve it. I trust in You, to teach and show me the wisdom that can only come from You.

I thank You for each of mine, and for walking with us. Protecting, teaching and guiding us through each day. Yours is the power and to You is the honor and glory forever.

I could not talk to you as spiritual people,
but as fleshly people, as infants in Christ.
I fed you milk, not solid food,
because you were unable to take it.
Indeed, you are still not able, even now,
for you are still of the flesh.
While there is jealousy and rivalry among you,
are you not of the flesh, and walking 
according to the manner of man?
Whenever someone says, “I belong to Paul,” and another,
“I belong to Apollos,” are you not merely men?
What is Apollos, after all, and what is Paul?
Ministers through whom you became believers,
just as the Lord assigned each one.
I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth.

but only God, who causes the growth.

Gospel Luke 4:38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.
Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever,
and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.
At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases
brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.
At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, “To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,
because for this purpose I have been sent.”

Formed: Paul’s Reminder

Paul reminds us that all growth in the spiritual life comes from God. Our job then is to focus solely on God. When we lose focus and allow distraction to seep into our spiritual life, we become people of the flesh.

Others may preach and teach, but only You allow me to follow the light of Your truths and become who You created me to be, and know Your will for me.
Thank You for this. For walking with me, and mine. For teaching them this too, and guiding our steps. For blessing us as You do, and protecting us was we walk through each day.

Reading 1 1 Corinthians 2:10B-16

Brothers and sisters:
The Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.
Among men, who knows what pertains to the man
 except his spirit that is within?
Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God.
We have not received the spirit of the world
 but the Spirit who is from God,
so that we may understand the things freely given us by God.
 And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom,
but with words taught by the Spirit,
 describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms.
Now the natural man does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God,
for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it,
because it is judged spiritually.
The one who is spiritual, however, can judge everything
but is not subject to judgment by anyone.
For “who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

Gospel Luke 4:31-37

Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee.
He taught them on the sabbath,
and they were astonished at his teaching
because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon,
and he cried out in a loud voice,
“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are–the Holy One of God!”
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!”
Then the demon threw the man down in front of them
and came out of him without doing him any harm.
They were all amazed and said to one another,
“What is there about his word?

Gospel Mark 6:17-29

Herod was the one who had John the Baptist arrested and bound in prison
on account of Herodias,
the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.
John had said to Herod,
“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Herodias harbored a grudge against him
and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,
and kept him in custody.
When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed,
yet he liked to listen to him.
She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday,
gave a banquet for his courtiers,
his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.
Herodias’ own daughter came in
and performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests.
The king said to the girl,
“Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you.”
He even swore many things to her,
“I will grant you whatever you ask of me,
even to half of my kingdom.”
She went out and said to her mother,
“What shall I ask for?”
She replied, “The head of John the Baptist.”
The girl hurried back to the king’s presence and made her request,
“I want you to give me at once
on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”
The king was deeply distressed,
but because of his oaths and the guests
he did not wish to break his word to her.
So he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders
to bring back his head.
He went off and beheaded him in the prison.
He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl.
The girl in turn gave it to her mother.
When his disciples heard about it,
they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Formed: The Passion of John the Baptist

St. John the Baptist is the forerunner to Christ. He prepares the way for him and, with his entire life, points others toward him. Even in his death, St. John the Baptist prefigures the death of Jesus. Be like St. John today, pointing others toward Christ.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Lord thank You for loving us enough to pay the debt we could never pay.

The reality is that the Gospel is both simple and complex. Complex for those unable to see the truth and feel the passion of Christ. But for those that do, it is simple. Dying to oneself to be crucified with Christ is the hard part. It’s a road we choose with many twist and turns, bumps and holes, that gets narrower as we walk it.
Thank You for walking with me and mine and showing us the way. Teaching and guiding us. Blessing and protecting us along the way.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Reading 1 1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Consider your own calling, brothers and sisters.
Not many of you were wise by human standards,
not many were powerful,
not many were of noble birth.
Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise,
and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong,
and God chose the lowly and despised of the world,
those who count for nothing,
to reduce to nothing those who are something,
so that no human being might boast before God.
It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus,

Powerful readings today Lord. How appropriate for the Today is Memorial of St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine. When I hear the name St. Monica, I think of Mom, and all the years she prayed for me, and each of you. So I know God hears our prayers, and has a plan for each of us. We need to pray and trust! God Give Us Your Courage. Believe in the power of prayer and pray without ceasing.

‘The Deep Prayer of our Heart!!
"Then the child will read all the treasures of grace, solicitude, & tenderness enclosed in the heart of his Mother. He will know that, next to God, it was the Tears, Prayers, & sighs of that Mother which brought about his salvation!
