Today’s verse

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”

Today’s Prayer

Gracious God, Genesis 3 is not good news. It proclaims the bad news of how sin has warped our lives. It reveals that we will experience the impact of sin in our work, as well as in our ultimate mortality. Though we’d rather not deal with this bad news, Lord, we need to hear it because it’s true.

And because it prepares us for the good news that is coming. When we recognize how lost we are, we yearn to be found. When we feel the pain of our mortality, we long for immortality. When our work is painful, we are reminded that we need your grace to touch all of life.

As we begin this season of Lent, may our hearts be open to you. Prepare us, Lord, for a fresh experience of your grace. May your life be alive within us! Amen.

Today’s verse

1 John 4:12 NLT
No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

Luke 4 The temptation of Jesus

At the end of a grueling 40-day fast, Jesus must face the devil and endure a succession of temptations. Right out of the gate, the tempter offers this insinuating challenge: “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.” The evil worming its way into the devil’s sly interaction with Jesus is this: “If you are…” He is challenging the truth of Jesus’ identity—a primary and consistent weapon in his mission to “steal and kill and destroy” everything that matters to God (John 10:10). At the core of this insinuation, Satan is questioning the very foundations of truth. And Jesus responds (quoting Deuteronomy 8:3) with an answer anchored in the bedrock of truth: “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’ ” When human beings decide for themselves what truth is, we descend into brutality and confusion and hopelessness. When we look to God’s own words as the source of our truth, we find life and hope and redemption and courage and strength. All truths are tributaries of the massive river of Truth, who is Jesus himself—this is why he is called “the Word” (John 1:1).

Today’s prayer

Dear Lord God You are truth, Jesus is the Word and the Word is truth. He walked and was tempted under the Sun just as we are. Yet we doubt Him and seek truth. Jesus is the cure for all our anxieties, troubles, worries and temptations we face under the Sun. Only the Son can save us. So I cry out in prayer for all those to afraid, to chained up in disbelief and lost in the ways under the Sun. Hear my prayer, touch them, heal them, speak to them, hold them close. Nothing is impossible for You. Use me, use someone to open their eyes and heart, break the chains that bind them, and convict them of their chosen ways. We are all prodigals lost under the Sun, to many have just not found their way home. Call out to them Lord God! Help them find the peace that only Jesus can give. This I ask in Jesus name. Amen

Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord God I pray that you fill me with the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Help me unselfishly serve those You put in my path. Open my eyes and heart to their needs. Hear my thoughts and prayers as I lift them up to You. Bless them, confort them, strengthen them, guide them. Let them feel Your peace and presence. These things I ask in Jesus’s name. Amen

Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord God in Jesus name I ask for your healing hand to be upon ‘J’. May she find herself as you created her to be. May she know her reason and purpose. Help us all have an open heart and eyes for our children lost and suffering, tempted to hurt themselves or others. Take their hand and hold them close. Bless Tim Tebow and his foundation, and tonight’s ‘night to shine’. O that you would continue to bless me and mine indeed, that you would expand our territory for your glory, that your hand would be with us, and that you would keep us from evil and causing pain. Amen
