Reading I Ezekiel 34:11-16

Jesus addressed this parable to the Pharisees and scribes: "What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them,  ’Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance."

Formed: The Good Shepherd

The First Reading paints a beautiful picture of the love that continually gushes forth from Christ’s Sacred Heart. He wants to lead, rescue, and heal you. He wants to bring you to fruitful pastures, places of nourishment and rest. Indeed, he wants to serve us as the Good Shepherd.

Reading I Isaiah 49:1-6

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Today I think of all those like John crying out to God’s children to repent and return home. Confused by all the dogma and doctrines of the Church. I just listen to their voices as they lead me closer to You Lord.
For we are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. And You call us to be all we can be. But we can’t get there without You. It requires one walk with Jesus. Help me and mine fulfill this one walk with You.
Thank You for walking with us. Guiding and teaching us. Forgiving us. Blessing and protecting us.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Formed: The Good Tree

The Old Testament is riddled with false prophets—men who claimed divine authority and mislead Israel. As we hear in the Gospel, Christ knew that the same scandal would occur in the Church. Thus, our Lord tells us to discern. What kinds of fruits do our teachers produce?

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
You’re making all things new Lord.
So many of us have wondered away from You, like prodigal sons and daughters we chased the things of the world pursuing our selfish desires. And the world now reflects like a mirror the sins and errors of our ways. The evil one has used us to steal our children and grandchildren. But in You Lord all things are made new.
So let there be a revival. Let us turn away from the false prophets and run to You. Examples for our children and grandchildren that Your heart is big enough and Your love strong enough to welcome us home to You. Setting the world and hearts on fire for You God.
Thank You for walking with me and mine. For leading us, blessing and protecting us. Let Your presence shine through us for all to see.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

In today’s Gospel reading, Christ urges us to follow the narrow way. In other words, we must treat others as we want to be treated: with dignity, love, and mercy. Though this path requires sacrifice, it opens us up to a fruitful life with Christ.

Formed: Self-Perception

As fallen men and women, we often point to others’ faults to make ourselves feel better. In the long run, however, this kind of criticism hurts us—it leads to self-deception. Fortunately, the Gospel shows us the way forward. Instead of judging others first, let’s examine how we can improve.

Lord this is how I start my day with You. In Your Word and in praying. Examining my conscience for what I’ve done wrong and failed to do right. Asking for forgiveness and courage.
For I know You are with me and mine. And You hear our prayers.
Thank You for each blessing and for protecting us. Continue to teach us and draw us closer to You through Jesus.

Reading II 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Lord God thank You for all the ways
You inspire and teach me about Your Word and Church. You know I am always looking to grow closer to You through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
You also know how I struggle more with the Bishops and all they don’t do which is right and needed. And all they do and allow to be done which is destroying the Church. More than the few things they do right. I fight to look beyond their hypocrisy and into the heart, blood and body of Christ. Help me understand Jesus. Help me get past these wolves in sheep clothing and into Your heart.

Thank You for walking with me and mine. For using them to show me and teach me, as I try to be their example and show them by example. Oh that You would continue to bless and protect us, while helping us grow in our faith.

Reading I 2 Chronicles 24:17-25

After the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and paid homage to King Joash, and the king then listened to them. They forsook the temple of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and began to serve the sacred poles and the idols; and because of this crime of theirs, wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem. Although prophets were sent to them to convert them to the LORD, the people would not listen to their warnings. Then the Spirit of God possessed Zechariah, son of Jehoiada the priest. He took his stand above the people and said to them: “God says, ‘Why are you transgressing the LORD’s commands, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have abandoned the LORD, he has abandoned you.’” But they conspired against him, and at the king’s order they stoned him to death in the court of the LORD’s temple. Thus King Joash was unmindful of the devotion shown him by Jehoiada, Zechariah’s father, and slew his son. And as Zechariah was dying, he said, “May the LORD see and avenge.”  At the turn of the year a force of Arameans came up against Joash. They invaded Judah and Jerusalem, did away with all the princes of the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus. Though the Aramean force came with few men, the Lord surrendered a very large force into their power, because Judah had abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers. So punishment was meted out to Joash. After the Arameans had departed from him, leaving him in grievous suffering, his servants conspired against him because of the murder of the son of Jehoiada the priest. He was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

Gospel Matthew 6:24-34

Jesus said to his disciples: “No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’ All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.”

Formed: Trust in Him

Anxiety about the future causes us to covet money and material goods. As a result, we find ourselves enslaved to mammon. In the Gospel, however, Jesus gives us the answer: trust in the Father. When we recognize that our loving Father knows our true needs, we find the path to lasting peace and freedom.

All the reason why I pray without ceasing, stay focused on today, surround myself in You and balance my desire to know with where I go to find out. So much of what we hear today is hidden in the intent. We must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Help us.
Thank You for walking with me and mine. Blessing and protecting us. Guiding us with Your love and wisdom. Teaching us in Your ways.
