My Daily Prayers and Readings for 10/29/2010
< >< My Prayer >< >
How often does fear keep us from action, even the action of preparing for that which we fear!
“It’s very important that we know what the real problem is because when you don’t you’ll spend a lot of time giving attention to the wrong thing…. If you really want to fix what’s wrong God has to show you what the real problem is.”
We must not think of facing that which we fear alone, for we are not alone; You are with us through Jesus in the Spirit. Only with and through You can we learn what it is we fear and then find the strength to face it and the energy to persevere.
“You know what your one thing is because it brings fear to you… it makes you want to run in the opposite direction.”
It find it so amazing how when alone in my thoughts my fear seems to grow, but when I catch myself and cry how ‘help me Jesus’ and approach fear as one in thought with You my fear disappears and is replaced with the confidence of oneness with You.
“A giant is someone or something that seeks to rule your world, it seeks to call the shots; it sets the agenda.” “It is your perspective that will determine your victory.”
Alone in my thoughts I have enough to overcome, add the pressure of the ways under the sun, and it becomes impossible as the number of things to fear seem endless and my options limited; but in You presence, thinking as one, it is the options that seem endless and fear is limited.
“While you and I are on earth, we are supposed to be looking at things from the vantage point of heaven. The goal of earth is to cause you to look at earth as your only option but that is not the only place you exist. You and I have been seated with Him in heavenly places. He wants us to get His view of the matter first. That’s what it means to walk in the spirit… To get God’s view or the Spirit’s view of the matter first.”
With eyes of faith, I am kept in Your presence, I am one through faith, dependant on You each step of the way; and while I may not always be fearless, I now I will not walk fearful for You are with me.
Abba Father in the name of Christ Jesus who lives within me through the Holy Spirit I pray that You create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me, for my one walk in and with Jesus today. Asking that You bless me and mine in fulfillment of Your will and keep us from evil and pain. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

October – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Today – LINGER IN MY PRESENCE A WHILE. Rein in your impulses to plunge into the day’s activities. Beginning your day alone with Me is essential preparation for success. A great athlete takes time to prepare himself mentally for the feat ahead of him before he moves a muscle. Similarly, your time of being still in My Presence equips you for the day ahead of you. Only I know what will happen to you this day. I have arranged the events you will encounter as you go along your way. If you are not adequately equipped for the journey, you will grow weary and lose heart. Relax with Me while I ready you for action.

Reading 1 Phil 1:1-11
Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus,
to all the holy ones in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi,
with the bishops and deacons:
grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the Gospel
from the first day until now.
I am confident of this,
that the one who began a good work in you
will continue to complete it
until the day of Christ Jesus.
It is right that I should think this way about all of you,
because I hold you in my heart,
you who are all partners with me in grace,
both in my imprisonment
and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel.
For God is my witness,
how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer:
that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception,
to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness
that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
Responsorial Psalm Ps 111:1-2, 3-4, 5-6
R. (2) How great are the works of the Lord!
or:
R. Alleluia.
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart
in the company and assembly of the just.
Great are the works of the LORD,
exquisite in all their delights.
R. How great are the works of the Lord!
or:
R. Alleluia.
Majesty and glory are his work,
and his justice endures forever.
He has won renown for his wondrous deeds;
gracious and merciful is the LORD.
R. How great are the works of the Lord!
or:
R. Alleluia.
He has given food to those who fear him;
he will forever be mindful of his covenant.
He has made known to his people the power of his works,
giving them the inheritance of the nations.
R. How great are the works of the Lord!
or:
R. Alleluia.
Gospel Lk 14:1-6
On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
and the people there were observing him carefully.
In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy.
Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking,
“Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
But they kept silent; so he took the man and,
after he had healed him, dismissed him.
Then he said to them
“Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern,
would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?”
But they were unable to answer his question.

Alas, what about you poor children! Being your spiritual father, I give you this advice: When you see your parents, who miss religious services, who work on Sunday, who eat meat on forbidden days, who do not go to the Sacraments anymore, who do not improve their minds on religious matters–do the very opposite before them, so that your good example may save them, and if you are wise and good enough to do this, you will have gained everything. That is what I most desire for you. — St. John Vianney
