Words of Jesus

"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

And you know the way where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me."

John 14:1-6

The life of the desire for esteem and respect is to be well thought of by everyone; its death, therefore, is to hide ourselves so as not to be known, by means of continual acts of humility and self-abasement. Until one succeeds in dying in this manner, God will never be able to perfectly live within him.

— St Mary Magdalen de' Pazzi

Abba, Father, Lord God, You are my strength and my shield; in You my heart trusts! Through Jesus in the Holy Spirit I ask and pray that You will help and guide me as I continue to die to myself by embracing, not fighting humility; and always seeking to give, not receive by releasing all that I receive from You. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I am not speaking of you all; I know whom I have chosen; it is that the scripture may be fulfilled, `He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.' I tell you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives any one whom I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me."

John 13:16-20

One who wishes to become holy ought not, except in a few cases, to excuse himself, although that for which he is blamed be not true. Jesus Christ acted as such. He heard Himself charged with evil which He had not done, but said not a word to free Himself from the disgrace.

— St Philip Neri

Abba, Father, Lord God, I watch and listen to Pope Benedict and recall the last years of Pope John Paul and I add this privilege to the blessings You have bestowed upon me. Not that as human beings they can be perfect and as such no church can be all that everyone wants given we are all different yet afflicted with the same nature, but for the awareness and experience of seeing Your hand at work within them as Your chosen Bishop for Your universal church. I think back to the sermons and few interactions with Pastor McCord and his words of knowledge and wisdom delivered so humbly and say, how blessed I feel that You would put men like this in my path, to light the way for me to come home to You through Jesus in the Spirit. O that You would use me as a light for others, not for the great reward that I would feel for having served You well, but for Your honor and glory, and for the knowledge that I was truly able to give the gift that I was given; the knowledge through faith, the courage with hope, and the humility in unconditional love which as lead me to where I am this moment, and every morning, here with You sharing myself, opening myself, dying to myself. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I ask and pray that as You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one, You will create in me oneness of faith, hope and love so that I too may walk in oneness with Your Spirit given to me through Jesus who You sent for me, us and the whole world. So for the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world, as Your will be done on this earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Words of Jesus

And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me."

John 12:44-50

The Lord sends us tribulation and infirmities to give us the means of paying the immense debts we have contracted with Him. Those who have good sense receive them joyfully, for they think more of the good which they derive from them than of the pain they experience on account of them.

— St Vincent Ferrer

Abba, Father, Lord God, today it is with thanks giving and praise that I open my eyes this day. Focused on being joyful for all the good that with Jesus in my heart I experience despite the trials and tribulations; whether of my own accord or Your will. While I do not agree with or claim to understand all of what St. Vincent says today; I know that the Words of Jesus are truth and life. And as long as I keep my heart open and seek Your presence by practicing walking in the light, I will overcome and find the good. For You are good Lord God, and only good comes from above. So it is with excitement for the visibility that Word that Pope Benedicts visit brings to America and the eyes and hears of the world that I pray the words of the Psalmist today 'that Thy way may be known upon earth, and Thy saving power among all nations'. In the name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, I pray and give thanks while asking that Your loving hand touch all I lift up to You with peace, comfort, contentment, and most of all faith, hope and love. The message of Pope Benedict, the Word of Jesus, Your Words, Amen.

Words of Jesus

It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

John 10:22-30

The merit of crosses does not consist in their weight, but the manner in which they are borne. It may show greater virtue to bear a cross of straw than a very hard and heavy one because the light ones are also the most hidden and therefore least comfortable to our inclination, which always seeks what is showy.

— St Francis de Sales

Abba, Father, Lord God, I am thankful for all Your blessings; and always seeking Your continued grace and mercy as I look to You through Jesus' example for peace and compassion this day. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

"you heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 1:5

And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.

John 10:16

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Matthew 28:19

Souls eager to arrive at union with God must accept, without excusing themselves, every correction or rebuke, even if not wholly deserved, and even if wholly unjust. It takes great humility to find oneself unjustly condemned and be silent, and to do this is to imitate the Lord, who set us free from all our sins.

— St Teresa of Avila

Abba, Father, Lord God, today my mind is filled with hope in Pope Benedicts visit to America; I know You work within each of us in different ways as is Your callings. But I feel Your hand at work in Pope John Paul and Pope Benedict and the Christian Churches; and I think as Solomon proclaimed 'There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens'. So I keep my eyes, ears, mind and heart open to You, always seeking, always trying to prepare myself to be a worthy Sheppard for all Your blessings through my faith in You the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit which I know is alive within me, with the hope that You may find me worthy to serve You so that I may make amends for all I did wrong and failed to do right, always with and in unconditional love and humility. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

John 10:1-10

If you see that you have not yet suffered tribulations, consider it certain that you have not begun to be a true servant of God; for the Apostle says plainly that all who choose to live piously in Christ, shall suffer persecutions.

— St Augustine

Abba, Father, Lord God, for I was a straying sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of my soul Jesus Christ; and I can say in faith and with hope that…

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus

It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

But there are some of you that do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."

John 6:63-65

To rely on our talents is a cause of great loss. When someone places confidence in his own prudence, knowledge, and intelligence, God, To make him know and see his insufficiency, withdraws from him His help and leaves him to work by himself. This is often why our undertakings miserably fail.

— St Vincent de Paul

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for awakening the seed You planted in me at conception and took possession of at baptism never giving up and never abandoning me. For I do believe You planted Your seed in each of us; the need to know and love You, to have a relationship with You. But as Jesus spoke in today's Gospel 'some do not believe'. So blessed am I that You through Your grace and mercy have granted me the awareness to open my heart to Jesus and as St. Vincent states today showing and teaching me how not to rely on my own talents but to seek Your will and Jesus teachings to know, nurture and develop the physical and spiritual gifts that You have given me. So here I am as with every day, starting my day with and in You; asking and praying that You would help me stay in Your presence throughout this day and that You would hear my thoughts and prayers for those I love, know and may try to harm or take advantage of me, And in all things teaching me acceptance through faith, giving me hope through knowledge that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and forgiveness through love. For if You would do all this for me a sinner by nature and forgive me, how can I keep that gift for me when by giving it away I may be blessed to awaken someone to what You have given me. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
