OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son
Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotion, Worship Song and Prayer

Today’s verse

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Psalm 92:12,14-15 NLT
[12] But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. [14] Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. [15] They will declare, "The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!"

These days, many things can lead us to doubt the truth of the Gospel, the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ…

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, sometimes it is not easy in this day to affirm the truth of the Gospel. We face many pressures that lead us to question, even to doubt the good news. Help us, we pray, to have confidence in you and your truth. Give us discerning minds and confident hearts. I pray today for those who are struggling with doubt. Meet them in their questions, concerns, and worries. Lead them to resources that will help them to think clearly about matters of faith. Bring into their lives those who can lovingly and wisely help them to grasp and grow in the truth. Amen.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON ME! Waves of adversity are washing over you, and you feel tempted to give up. As your circumstances consume more and more of your attention, you are losing sight of Me. Yet I am with you always, holding youby your right hand. I am fully aware of your situation, and I will not allow you to betempted beyond what you are able tobear.

Your gravest danger is worrying about tomorrow. If you try to carry tomorrow’s burdens today, you will stagger under the load and eventually fall flat. You must discipline yourself to live within the boundaries of today. It is in the present moment that I walk close to you, helping you carry your burdens. Keep your focus on My Presence in the present.

I AM LEADING YOU, STEP BY STEP, through your life. Hold My hand in trusting dependence, letting Me guide you through this day. Your future looks uncertain and feels flimsy—even precarious. That is how it should be. Secret things belong to theLord, and future things are secret things. When you try to figure out the future, you are grasping at things that are Mine. This, like all forms of worry, is an act of rebellion: doubting My promises to care for you.

Whenever you find yourself worrying about the future, repent and return to Me. I will show you the next step forward, and the one after that, and the one after that. Relax and enjoy the journey in My Presence, trusting Me to open up the way before you as you go.

REFRAMING JESUS

2 KINGS 2:9-12—JESUS TALKS WITH ELIJAH AND MOSES

Elijah has quite a track record: spitefully teasing the false prophets of Baal, parting the Jordan River, making the rain stop, calling for wet wood to burst into flame, and standing closer to God than anyone since Moses. After Elijah’s ascent into heaven, the Jews waited in anticipation for his return. In later tradition they even set out an empty chair at their circumcisions and a cup of wine at Passover in hopes that he would join them—they believed that the return of Elijah meant the promised Savior would be close on his heels and would join them.

Elijah actually does show up on earth again, but not to pave the way for the Messiah as the people hoped. When Jesus takes his three closest followers up to a mountain, Jesus’ appearance is awesomely transformed—his clothes become dazzling white—then Elijah and Moses appear and speak with him (Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36). Elijah’s “return” to earth affirms that Jesus is the promised Messiah and the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies—the hope the world was waiting for. Elijah’s amazing departure to heaven, escorted by a chariot of fire is nothing compared to the glory of Elijah having this amazing role in revealing Jesus as the true Savior for humanity.

Fruit of the Spirit…

February 24, 2018

OneWalk: Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotions, Worship Song and Prayer

Today’s verse

Galatians 5:22-24 NLT
[22] But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! [24] Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

REFRAMING JESUS

GALATIANS 5:22-23—BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS

Every once in awhile in one of those big grocery-store warehouses, the label of a can will snag on something and tear off. Then what? Without the picture and colorful lettering, how can anyone know what’s inside? Would you buy a can with no label and hope for the best? Maybe if you’re looking for a fun party game—but cans without labels make planning dinner a difficult prospect. The outside of a label-less can conceals whatever is inside, good or bad. Paul reminds us that when the Holy Spirit is truly alive and at work within us, people will know. The good work that is happening within us oozes out in the way we live. Our lives become the labels, but rather than chicken soup, our labels show things like “patience,” “gentleness,” and “goodness.” The Holy Spirit is hard at work inside of us, changing us in profound ways. And that change spills right out into our lives as we are made to be more and more like Jesus.

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, even though I struggle at times with the meaning and purpose of my walk under the sun. And I let how others handle their struggles get to me. I realize how we all let the routine and repetitiveness of our daily walk, problems at work and with each other get to us. We have our highs and lows, our strengths and weaknesses. Help me not to judge but pray at all times without ceasing. Help me to see the larger picture, to see how what we do fits into Your eternal purposes. Help us to trust in you even when we do not see that larger picture. In those times, help me to endure with patience the walk you’ve given me this day and to help others do the same. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen

1 Kings 17

1 Kings 17:1-10— Here the widow of Zarephath shelters the prophet Elijah when he’s on the run from Ahab and Jezebel, and she receives the reward of God bringing her son back to life. Later, Jesus refers to this when he is rejected in his hometown of Nazareth. And he teaches that if you welcome a prophet of God, you will receive the same reward that a prophet gets( Luke 4:25-26; Matthew 10:41 ).

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, I try to never ask for signs for as Jesus said we should never test You. But You still show me Your presence. I try to never ask what I want, but that Your will be served through me. But You show me Your will is what serves me best. ‘O’Lord’ all I need to do is ‘trust in Jesus’ all the time, good times and bad times. You are my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God, in whom I find protection. My shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Amen
