Today’s verse

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 NLT

Today’s thought and readings
The only Biblical reference to what happened to Jesus on Holy Saturday is found in Matthew 27:62-66.

The Importance of Hell
Core Christianity Article 05 Feb 18

There are plenty of people today who don’t believe in the Bible’s teaching on everlasting punishment, even those who do find it an unreal and a remote concept.

In 2003 a research group discovered 64% of Americans expect to go to heaven when they die, but less than 1% think they might go to hell. Not only are there plenty of people today who don’t believe in the Bible’s teaching on everlasting punishment, even those who do find it an unreal and a remote concept. Nevertheless, it is a very important part of the Christian faith, for several reasons.

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, today I contemplate and meditate on all You did for me (us). With caution I remind myself I could never fully know what You suffered for me (us). Not just the betrayal, loneliness, physical beating and scourging and crucifixiones, but the hell and separation from God the Abba Father, all for me (us). For when I try, I have to stop, realizing I could never comprehend fully what you experienced for me (us). It’s to much, I realize how much easier it is to sin, than to pay and atone for them. And just know how weak I am (we are). All I can do is fight to focus on You, praying without ceasing for forgiveness and reconcile myself to You. For when I do, I feel whole and forgiven, and one with You. I can never thank You enough, so instead I must just die to myself and commit myself to following You. O Jesus, I love You, I’m sorry, forgive me, and thank You. Amen

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, only your amazing grace makes this Good Friday. Only your amazing love turns the horror of the cross into the beauty of salvation. Only you, Lord, can take what is evil and transform it into good. All praise be to you! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for dying in my place. Thank you for taking upon yourself the penalty I deserved but could never fully bear. Thank you for all that your cross makes possible. Help me, I pray, to know more deeply and truly what your death means. May I receive your grace in a new way today. And may I share it with others. Amen.

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotion, Worship Song and Prayer

Today’s verse

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34 NLT

Today’s reading
John 13
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+13&version=NLT

John 13:12-17 NLT
[12] …"Do you understand what I was doing? [13] You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. [14] And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. [15] I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. [16] I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. [17] Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

John 13:31-32 NLT
[31] …"The time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory, and God will be glorified because of him. [32] And since God receives glory because of the Son, he will give his own glory to the Son, and he will do so at once.

A Devotion for Holy Week: Living As Agents of Reconciliation
Life for Leaders Daily Devotion

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, I love You, I’m sorry, forgive me, thank You. Thank you for reconciling us to yourself through Christ. Thank you for taking our sin upon yourself and offering us forgiveness in return. Thank you for taking our death so that we might experience your life.
Help us, Lord, to be agents of reconciliation in our different spheres of influence. Whether at work, at home, in our neighborhoods, in our cities, or in our churches, may we be people who bring healing and wholeness, who seek justice and live out your peace. Amen.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior. I love You, I’m sorry, forgive me, thank You. Thank You for the fact that I have become new in Christ, and that I have begun to live in your new creation. Of course, I am not fully renewed, and you’re not done with the world yet, either. But your newness has begun to invade this old creation. Your truth, love, and power are here now. Your Spirit is at work as you are making all things new, including me. May I live in your new creation now, however incompletely. And may you fill my heart with hope for what is yet to come. To you be the glory, Lord. Amen.

What Are You Leaving For?

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotion, Worship Song and Prayer

Today’s reading
2 Corinthians 6

2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NLT
[1] As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. [2] For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NLT
[14] Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. [15] He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

What are you living for? Really. What are you living for? Success? Status? Security? Significance?

In 2 Corinthians 5:14, the Apostle Paul answers this question, but in a slightly different form. Not “what are you living for?” but “whom are you living for?”

In 2 Corinthians 5:15 we read, “And [Christ] died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
