On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
She said to them, “They have taken my Lord,
and I don’t know where they laid him.”
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?”
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
“Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to him in Hebrew,
“Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her,
“Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
But go to my brothers and tell them,
‘I am going to my Father and your Father,
to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
“I have seen the Lord,”
and then reported what he told her.

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, one of the greatest converts in Church history. Her example of conversion, followed by constantly seeking the Lord, is one we should imitate. St. Mary Magdalene never left Christ’s side, even unto his death. How can we, like this great saint, seek and follow Christ with greater desire?

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for the blessing of being able to feel close to You. Through these daily readings and reflections. Through the Saints. And through all Your inspired praise and worship songs and books. I seek You Lord in everything, always. To walk in Your presence. To be a witness like Mary Magdalene to all You have done for me and mine.
So I pray, that the faith, hope and love You create in me is visible to all who see and know me. Starting with each of mine, and each of theirs.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Reading I Exodus 16:1-5, 9-15

The children of Israel set out from Elim,
and came into the desert of Sin,
which is between Elim and Sinai,
on the fifteenth day of the second month
after their departure from the land of Egypt.
Here in the desert the whole assembly of the children of Israel
grumbled against Moses and Aaron.
The children of Israel said to them,
“Would that we had died at the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt,
as we sat by our fleshpots and ate our fill of bread!
But you had to lead us into this desert
to make the whole community die of famine!”
Then the LORD said to Moses,
“I will now rain down bread from heaven for you.
Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion;
thus will I test them,
to see whether they follow my instructions or not.
On the sixth day, however, when they prepare what they bring in,
let it be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole congregation
of the children of Israel:
Present yourselves before the LORD,
for he has heard your grumbling.”
When Aaron announced this to the whole assembly of the children of Israel,
they turned toward the desert, and lo,
the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud!
The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
“I have heard the grumbling of the children of Israel.
Tell them: In the evening twilight you shall eat flesh,
and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread,
so that you may know that I, the LORD, am your God.”
In the evening quail came up and covered the camp.
In the morning a dew lay all about the camp,
and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert
were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground.
On seeing it, the children of Israel asked one another, “What is this?”
for they did not know what it was.
But Moses told them,
“This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.”

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.
Such large crowds gathered around him
that he got into a boat and sat down,
and the whole crowd stood along the shore.
And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying:
“A sower went out to sow.
And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path,
and birds came and ate it up.
Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.
It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep,

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for teaching me to practice an attitude of gratitude in all things, at all times. For You walk with me and mine, providing us with all we need.
So I pray without ceasing that You keep our eyes and hearts open to Your presence and blessings. And though we may doubt, we will overcome all doubt with our love for You.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Reading I Exodus 14:21—15:1

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
and the LORD swept the sea
with a strong east wind throughout the night
and so turned it into dry land.
When the water was thus divided,
the children of Israel marched into the midst of the sea on dry land,
with the water like a wall to their right and to their left.
The Egyptians followed in pursuit;
all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and charioteers went after them
right into the midst of the sea.
In the night watch just before dawn
the LORD cast through the column of the fiery cloud
upon the Egyptian force a glance that threw it into a panic;
and he so clogged their chariot wheels
that they could hardly drive.
With that the Egyptians sounded the retreat before Israel,
because the LORD was fighting for them against the Egyptians.
Then the LORD told Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea,
that the water may flow back upon the Egyptians,
upon their chariots and their charioteers.”
So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
and at dawn the sea flowed back to its normal depth.
The Egyptians were fleeing head on toward the sea,
when the LORD hurled them into its midst.
As the water flowed back,
it covered the chariots and the charioteers of Pharaoh’s whole army
that had followed the children of Israel into the sea.
Not a single one of them escaped.
But the children of Israel had marched on dry land
through the midst of the sea,
with the water like a wall to their right and to their left.
Thus the LORD saved Israel on that day
from the power of the Egyptians.
When Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore
and beheld the great power that the LORD
had shown against the Egyptians,
they feared the LORD and believed in him and in his servant Moses.
Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the LORD:
I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant;
horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.

Gospel Matthew 12:46-50

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Proclaim the Lord

After the Israelites cross the Red Sea, they sing a song of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for redeeming them. Among other praises, they sing: "My strength and my refuge is the Lord, and he has become my savior" (Exodus 15:2). This heartfelt song of gratitude serves as a great reminder that no matter how difficult things may seem, the Lord is faithful and is your salvation.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for everything. I will proclaim that You are my strength, my song, and my salvation. You walk beside me and mine. Guiding and protecting us from ourselves and this lost world. Teaching us Your ways and showing us Your will.
My prayer for me and mine, and theirs as well as all those that love You and seek to keep Your Word. Is that we keep getting our strength from You and You alone.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Reading I Exodus 14:5-18

When it was reported to the king of Egypt
that the people had fled,
Pharaoh and his servants changed their minds about them.
They exclaimed, “What have we done!
Why, we have released Israel from our service!”
So Pharaoh made his chariots ready and mustered his soldiers
six hundred first-class chariots
and all the other chariots of Egypt, with warriors on them all.
So obstinate had the LORD made Pharaoh
that he pursued the children of Israel
even while they were marching away in triumph.
The Egyptians, then, pursued them;
Pharaoh’s whole army, his horses, chariots and charioteers,
caught up with them as they lay encamped by the sea,
at Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
Pharaoh was already near when the children of Israel looked up
and saw that the Egyptians were on the march in pursuit of them.
In great fright they cried out to the LORD.
And they complained to Moses,
“Were there no burial places in Egypt
that you had to bring us out here to die in the desert?
Why did you do this to us?
Why did you bring us out of Egypt?
Did we not tell you this in Egypt, when we said,
‘Leave us alone. Let us serve the Egyptians’?
Far better for us to be the slaves of the Egyptians
than to die in the desert.”
But Moses answered the people,
“Fear not! Stand your ground,
and you will see the victory the LORD will win for you today.
These Egyptians whom you see today you will never see again.
The LORD himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still.”
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?
Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
And you, lift up your staff and, with hand outstretched over the sea,
split the sea in two,
that the children of Israel may pass through it on dry land.
But I will make the Egyptians so obstinate
that they will go in after them.
Then I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army,
his chariots and charioteers.
The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD,
when I receive glory through Pharaoh
and his chariots and charioteers.”

Some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
“Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”
He said to them in reply,
“An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign,
but no sign will be given it
except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth

Trust in God, Not in Man

Before the Red Sea parts, the people of Israel are still afraid of being captured by Pharaoh’s army. As they cross to the other side safely, God shows us that he is faithful and he alone will shepherd his people. Even if the political and social situation seems catastrophic, God is above politics and will always remain stedfast and faithful.

Today’s Action Item: Trust in God and not in human calculations.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for showing me to trust in You and You alone. To focus on all the blessings You have bestowed on me and mine. Most of all the times we spend together, aware of Your presence.
Chaos May surround us, but in You we will find peace and courage in the midst of what ever storms may come.
So I continue to pray for Your blessing and protection for each of us, and all those overwhelmed by the chaos. Hear my prayers.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Reading I Jeremiah 23:1-6

Woe to the shepherds
who mislead and scatter the flock of my pasture,
says the LORD.
Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Israel,
against the shepherds who shepherd my people:
You have scattered my sheep and driven them away.
You have not cared for them,
but I will take care to punish your evil deeds.
I myself will gather the remnant of my flock
from all the lands to which I have driven them
and bring them back to their meadow;
there they shall increase and multiply.
I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them
so that they need no longer fear and tremble;
and none shall be missing, says the LORD.
Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD,
when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David;
as king he shall reign and govern wisely,
he shall do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah shall be saved,

God Is the Ultimate Shepherd

In today’s reading from Jeremiah, we see God upset with the corrupted leaders of the scattered flock of Israel. This serves as a reminder that God, the ultimate Shepherd, gathers us back in. No matter how dire the state of our Church seems, the book of Jeremiah reminds us that God is in charge and he will be the one to redeem and restore the flock.

Today’s Action Item: Trust in God as the ultimate shepherd of the Church.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for guiding me through the chaos in the Church. Priests being removed from their Parishes. Bishops supporting culture trends rather than the Church teachings I have known all my life. The Pope seems to be most interested in global politics rather than uniting he seems to want to divide, and move further away from traditional practices that some if not many cherish. Why? Why not lead, unite and stop trying to change the Church, rather than show people how to change to follow Christ. His teachings, His ways.
Hear my prayers Lord, guide me. Give me a discerning heart for Your truth.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Reading I Exodus 12:37-42

The children of Israel set out from Rameses for Succoth,
about six hundred thousand men on foot,
not counting the little ones.
A crowd of mixed ancestry also went up with them,
besides their livestock, very numerous flocks and herds.
Since the dough they had brought out of Egypt was not leavened,
they baked it into unleavened loaves.
They had rushed out of Egypt and had no opportunity
even to prepare food for the journey.
The time the children of Israel had stayed in Egypt
was four hundred and thirty years.
At the end of four hundred and thirty years,
all the hosts of the LORD left the land of Egypt on this very date.
This was a night of vigil for the LORD,
as he led them out of the land of Egypt;
so on this same night
all the children of Israel must keep a vigil for the LORD
throughout their generations.

Gospel Matthew 12:14-21

The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus
to put him to death.
When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place.
Many people followed him, and he cured them all,
but he warned them not to make him known.
This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
 my beloved in whom I delight;
 I shall place my Spirit upon him,
 and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
 He will not contend or cry out,
 nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
 A bruised reed he will not break,
 a smoldering wick he will not quench,
 until he brings justice to victory.

Take Time to Pray

As we reflect on the Passover event in Exodus, we are reminded about the importance of keeping vigil. Every year after the event of the Passover, faithful Jews kept watch to remember how God saved his people from slavery in Egypt. Similarly, after Jesus celebrates the Passover meal at the Last Supper, he tells his disciples to keep watch and pray with him in the garden. Do we make time to keep watch with Christ in adoration?

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for today’s readings and Gospel. Once again Lord You open my heart to a deeper need. The need to watch. Not just pray, but watch in adoration and pray. Meditating and bringing to You all things, all tribulations, trials, worries and concerns. For me, for mine, for theirs, for them, for my country and the world. Yet remembering that in You all things are made new.
So I in trust everything to You. Each of mine and theirs.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Reading I Exodus 11:10—12:14

Although Moses and Aaron performed various wonders
in Pharaoh’s presence,
the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate,
and he would not let the children of Israel leave his land.
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
“This month shall stand at the head of your calendar;
you shall reckon it the first month of the year.
Tell the whole community of Israel: On the tenth of this month
every one of your families must procure for itself a lamb,
one apiece for each household.
If a family is too small for a whole lamb,
it shall join the nearest household in procuring one
and shall share in the lamb
in proportion to the number of persons who partake of it.
The lamb must be a year-old male and without blemish.
You may take it from either the sheep or the goats.
You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, and then,
with the whole assembly of Israel present,
it shall be slaughtered during the evening twilight.
They shall take some of its blood
and apply it to the two doorposts and the lintel
of every house in which they partake of the lamb.
That same night they shall eat its roasted flesh
with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
It shall not be eaten raw or boiled, but roasted whole,
with its head and shanks and inner organs.
None of it must be kept beyond the next morning;
whatever is left over in the morning shall be burned up.
“This is how you are to eat it:
with your loins girt, sandals on your feet and your staff in hand,
you shall eat like those who are in flight.
It is the Passover of the LORD.
For on this same night I will go through Egypt,
striking down every first born of the land, both man and beast,
and executing judgment on all the gods of Egypt—I, the LORD!
But the blood will mark the houses where you are.
Seeing the blood, I will pass over you;
thus, when I strike the land of Egypt,
no destructive blow will come upon you.
“This day shall be a memorial feast for you,
which all your generations shall celebrate
with pilgrimage to the LORD, as a perpetual institution.”

Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath.
His disciples were hungry
and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them.
When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him,
“See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.”
He said to the them, “Have you not read what David did
when he and his companions were hungry,
how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering,
which neither he nor his companions
but only the priests could lawfully eat?
Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath
the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath
and are innocent?
I say to you, something greater than the temple is here.
If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
you would not have condemned these innocent men.
For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”

Receive the Blood of Christ
Today’s passage tells us that God "hardened Pharaoh’s heart" (Exodus 9:12). This does not mean that God took away his free will, but rather that Pharaoh closed himself off to God’s grace at each opportunity for redemption, making his heart hard. Do we have hearts of clay, which harden under the light of God, or do we have hearts of wax, that melt with love under his divine light?

Sometimes we find ourselves at a dead end, unable to find an escape or a way forward. The Lord, who wins “victory” with his “holy arm” (Ps 98:1), wants to deliver us from such stagnation. His salvation is about continuing the story, our story, rather than letting it come to an end.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for Your Word. For giving me a thirst for it, and showing me of it’s never ending secrets, and truth. For even when our Bishops and Priests, even the Pope disagree on the interpretation of Your Word. I know if I stay in it, with an open heart and mind You will speak to me and show me the truth. The truth of the love story of Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation.
So today I pray for understanding and wisdom. Understanding of Your Word, and the Wisdom to know how to apply it in my one walk with Jesus. For me and mine, as a example to them and theirs.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.
