Words written in red; Words of Jesus
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare’a Philip’pi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli’jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven and I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Matthew 16: 13 – 19

We are at Jesus’ disposal. If he wants you to be sick in bed, if he wants you to proclaim His work in the street, if he wants you to clean the toilets all day, that’s all right, everything is all right. We must say, "I belong to you. You can do whatever you like." And this… is our strength, and this is the joy of the Lord.
— Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for all the blessings You have bestowed upon me I remain conscious of Your teachings and that I have much work to do and I am aware of the importance to surround myself with that which will remind me of Your presence and help me practice the wisdom of what You through Jesus in the Spirit show and teach me.  I pray that You will continue to bless me indeed, enlarge my territory, and that Your hand will be with me to keep me from evil and from causing pain; I also ask in Jesus name that You will strengthen the Spirit within me providing me with the discipline and energy to do what I must do and then be able to one day look back like St. Paul and be able to say, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7) All along never walking to fast that I am not able to stop and retreat to that quick place where it is just be You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The Shack Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" Words written in red; Words of Jesus
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zeb’edee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, "Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, `The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.

I travel, work, suffer my weak health, meet with a thousand difficulties, but all these are nothing, for this world is so small. To me, space is an imperceptible object, as I am accustomed to dwell in eternity.
— St Frances Xavier Cabrini

Dear Abba Father, Lord God, how blessed am I, to have such a wife, to be given such children and now grandchildren, to have brother and sisters to love and to be able to have my mother and father see how You have performed Your works in me. I will always walk gratefully under the sun asking and praying that Your will be worked out in and through me; in all things big and small. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
As he entered Caper’na-um, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress." And he said to him, "I will come and heal him." But the centurion answered him, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, `Go,’ and he goes, and to another, `Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, `Do this,’ and he does it." When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,  while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth." And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; be it done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment. And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever; he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him. That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases."

Matthew 8: 5 – 17

We are well aware that it is not easy suddenly to change a mind possessed by ignorance, we intend to add a few things, for the sake of persuading those who love the truth, knowing that it is possible to put ignorance to flight by presenting the truth.
— St Justin the Martyr

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for all Your blessings, grace and mercy I feel an wakening, yet my attention is broken by the fight I must continue to amend and correct the errors of my irresponsibility. Strengthen me for the fight Lord, liken my heart to that of Jesus; help me to keep moving forward aware and embracing tall that You are teaching me. Let me end each day having taken more steps forward than back without judging or causing pain to anyone, and accepting my suffering and crosses in faith with hope in love strengthening my faith, hope and love. O that You would find the way to bless indeed, that Your hand would be with me each step today, keeping me from evil and from causing pain; lead me to a place that the fruits of my blessings will be used for Your work according to Your. Let my thoughts, words and acts be like lights on Your hill. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Today is the Catholic Church celebrates the Birth of St. John the Baptist

Words of Jesus
Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Matthew 11:11

This is the difference between us and those who do not know God: they, in adversity, complain and grumble; we , on the other hand, are not drawn away from virtue by the things that go against us but are strengthened in it, for we know even the hairs of our head are numbered.
— St Cyprian

Abba, Father, Lord God, how thankful I am for all Your blessings even in the midst of strife and turmoil; and for Your inspired words which like today are rich in wisdom worthy of meditation and thought. O how my mind is a flutter with thoughts, beliefs, questions and most of all feelings, starting from the celebration of the John the Baptist by the Catholic Church. As I read Isaiah and the Psalms and then the Gospel of Luke I feel confirmation in my belief that before I (we) are formed in our mother’s worm You have planted in our hearts the need to know and have a relationship with You. After all You are our source of source; and while You know me (us) from the inside out, knowing even the number of hairs and You have had a plan for me, You have also let me make my own choices. In this I have failed You by choosing to do the wrong things and failing to do the rights things; but thankful am I for the Holy Spirit that lives in me. Not the voice I hear that is subconscious in nature derived from the ways under the sun, but the conscious voice that hears the subconscious and in Jesus through the Holy Spirit connects me with You and gives me the chance over and over to choose. My way or Yours? For under the sun we all seek to satisfy our human nature which is temporary, but this is a path that I feel runs contrary to our source and true spiritual nature which is eternal. I feel this point emphasized in the words attributed to John the Baptist `What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’ And the words they spoke of him at his circumcision ‘"What then will this child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him.‘ Therefore it is in faith that I find the hope that this question remains unanswered as long as I still walk under the sun, and in fact can be asked of me each day and in each moment ‘what then will this child be?’ for Your hand is with me too, but will I take it, can I overcome the subconscious being whose source is under the sun, and walk as a consciously being with You through Jesus in the Holy Spirit. This is what I ask and pray for today and in doing so may be a light on Your hill seen by someone today. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice. ‘For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Matthew 9: 9 – 13

The passion of Jesus is a sea of sorrows, but it is also an ocean of love. Ask the Lord to teach you to fish in this ocean. Dive into its depths. No matter how deep you go, you will never reach the bottom.
— St. Paul of the Cross

Abba, Father, Lord God, always thankful and aware, I feel it must be from a grateful heart, thirsty  spirit and hunger mind, that I come to You. For it is in the counting of my blessings and all that You have given me that feeling begins replaces desire. Today’s readings are clear to the fact that You ‘desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God, rather than burnt offerings.’ Away from the busyness under the sun and removed from the desires of my human nature it is easy to feel Your presence and in that presence know that I am expressing my love for You through my seeking to know You more and expressing that knowledge in acts of faith, expressed in hope and worked out through love. But under the sun I must fight doubt and embrace each moment for what it is; a chance to work out my faith by finding hope in loving all that I have over that which I desire. Oh that You would help me find the faith of Abraham to go with the heart of David, for as St. Paul writes today ‘No distrust made him waver concerning Your promise, he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to You, fully convinced that You were able to do what You had promised. That is why his faith was "reckoned to him as righteousness."’ In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. This I command you, to love one another.
John 15:9-17

Souls eager to arrive at union with God must accept, without excusing themselves, every correction or rebuke, even if not wholly deserved, and even if wholly unjust. It takes great humility to find oneself unjustly condemned and be silent, and to do this is to imitate the Lord, who set us free from all our sins.
— St Teresa of Avila

Abba, Father, Lord God, once again I praise You and feel You presence in todays readings; for once again I feel that through Your Word You are guiding me and laying before me that truth with I seek to create in me the image of Jesus and that which will liken my hearts to His. Lord, You know my heart, You know my every weakness and gift, show me how and give me only what I need to put these truths to work in me, completing that which You, dare I say we, began in August 2002. Raise me out from myself above my flesh and all that I have learned under the sun and place my feet on the solid ground of Your Words so that I may be filled and ready to be used by You to help the poor in spirit and be a light to the needy. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words of Jesus
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, `Show us the Father’?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves. "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
John 14:9-14

Many wealthy people are disposed to use their abundance not to swell their own pride but to perform works of benevolence.  They consider their greatest gain what they spend to alleviate the distress of others.  This virtue is open to all men, no matter what their class or condition, because all can be equal in their willingness to give, however unequal they may be in earthly fortune.
— Pope St. Leo the Great

Abba, Father, Lord God, today the words of the Psalmist direct my prayer; for it is as written ‘day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In them You have set a tent for the sun, which comes forth like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and like a strong man runs its course with joy.’ For within Your heavenly elements of the world, how beautifully arranged, lay hidden the power and wisdom of You our creator and source of source; Your wisdom is available to all human beings in these words brought to life through and in Jesus Christ in whose name I pray to be opened and rid of self, for no word or sound: the regular functioning of Your heavens and the alternation of day and night can take root in me if myself stands in Your way, You my creator and source of source whose power and wisdom is made live in Jesus and lives within me in Your Holy Spirit. O Lord God in Jesus name I ask and pray that You open my heart and rid me of myself. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
