Words written in red; Words of Jesus
At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the sabbath; his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath."  He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?  Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath."

Matthew 12: 1 – 8

Faith is not a wish to believe or a will to believe something contrary to reason. Faith is not living as if something were true. Faith is the acceptance of a truth based on the authority of God’s revelation, as manifested in the Church and in Scripture.
— Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for Your blessings and presence I ask Your special guidance over these next few days. Liken my heart to that of Jesus and let my thoughts, words and actions be guided by what is best for others first, according to Your will. Help me to die to myself, my hurts, my pains and my pride so that I will be free to give what I receive only from You through Jesus in the Spirit, unconditional love, understanding and forgiveness. Today’s readings speak to me in terms of walking righteously, power of prayer, the reality of our passing from under the sun, but most of all Jesus speaks to me in His words and through the words of Bishop Sheen. For in Jesus presence we are called and expected to be greater to rise above the ways under the sun which is the source of our human nature to become filled with His Spirit who through Jesus who is one with You we can become one with You if only for moments. For in these moments we find our salt and shine brightest for You Lord. After all You are our source and no one can deny that everyone seeks their higher source because they know the source under the sun cannot be all there is, everyone knows there has to be more; but can we accept that which is before us, ‘Faith is the acceptance of a truth based on the authority of God’s revelation, as manifested in the Church and in Scripture’; Jesus Christ and Your words has spoken through the Prophets and Saints. For it is a living words which speaks to us each individually, and while we are unit through the Spirit in Jesus with You, You work differently and reveal Your truths according to our own unique needs according to You will and purpose for us under the sun. Always preparing and having us practice that which we will need and us when we pass on to You for eternity. So knowing I cannot change yesterday, nor control tomorrow, I take my roles under the sun most seriously and look to You for guidance as I begin my walk today. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever. At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Matthew 11: 25 – 27

Take caution to see priests only as the dispensers of the Blood of the humble, Immaculate Lamb and overlook the faults you may see in them. A priest is a man and therefore fallible and capable of making mistakes, but this does not prevent him from being the Annointed of the Lord, marked forever with the indelible sign and having the power to consecrate the Body of Christ and administer the sacraments and to preach to the people in the name of God.
— St. Catherine of Siena

Abba, Father, Lord God, who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil, for Yours is the power and the glory forever and ever. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.  Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5: 13 – 19

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful, humbled and aware of Your presence I pray that my legacy would be that which St. Paul writes about in today’s reading from Corinthians.

6  Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
7  But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification.
8  None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9  But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him,"
10  God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
11  For what person knows a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12  Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God.
13  And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit.
You know my heart, you know me inside out and outside in, You know the number of my hairs; grant me that wisdom that is appropriate for me or at least that wisdom You know I will use wisely for You, and let that be my gift, my heritance, my legacy for me and mine. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Psalm 16:5-9, 11
5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; thou holdest my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also dwells secure. 11 Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fullness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.

Matthew 10: 34 – 42, 11: 1

It is not the actual physical exertion that counts toward a man’s progress, nor the nature of the task, but the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken.

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful I come to You, humbled by myself, I seek to follow the words of the Psalmist by finding and ‘bringing thanksgiving as my sacrifice to honor You’; hoping and praying that by ‘ordering my way aright ‘You will show Your salvation to me and mine!‘For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world! The in name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach.  And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away. Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear."

Matthew 13: 1 – 23

Hold firmly that our faith is identical with that of the ancients. Deny this, and you dissolve the unity of the Church.
— St. Thomas Aquinas

Abba, Father, Lord God, thank You for blessing me so and for the gift of feeling; feeling for You, even if they do not yet hear You. For I do want to hear You, and I do wake each day to listen for Your Words, always asking and always praying that through Jesus who in the Spirit lives within me I will keep feeling my ear for You, and keep the faith to keep listening and hoping that someday I will truly hear You. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Words written in red; Words of Jesus
Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.  For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?  For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.

Matthew 16: 24 – 27

If you should ask me what is the way of God, I would tell you that it is humility. Not that there are no other precepts to give, but if humility does not precede all that we do, our efforts are fruitless.
— St. Augustine

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for yesterday, grateful for today, You fill me with memories, You show me what means the most to me, and all the way You keep blessing me and touch me to let me know that You are with me, and so more and more in the simplest of things I find myself saying ‘my Lord God is with me, thank You Lord God‘. You know me better than I know myself, You know the number of hairs on my head and what is best for me; You have shown and proven to me that I am nothing without You, You are my source of source. To walk without You and Your counsel is like walking with my eyes closed; I feel to walk with You will be like running with my eyes closed. While I know I have much, much to learn and understand about how to let Your will flow through me to the point that there is no doubt, hesitation or worry, just faith, hope and love. I know You are there and I seek to practice Your presence more and more, until I am one with You, as You are one with me, and as You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one. I have a lot to reconcile under the sun and there is much work to do and things to be taken care of, oneness with Your presence is what I will need to complete that which is before me. In Jesus name I ask You to help and bless me and mine, enlarge our territory, while keeping us from evil, and from causing pain. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

2 Corinthians 4:6-11, 16, 17
6  For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.  7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.  8  We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;  9  persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
10  always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.  11  For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.  16  So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day.  17  For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
Psalm 59:2, 10, 17-18
deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.  10  My God in his steadfast love will meet me; my God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.  17  O my Strength, I will sing praises to thee, for thou, O God, art my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
Matthew 16:24-27

Words written in red; Words of Jesus
As they were going away, behold, a dumb demoniac was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons." And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

Matthew 9: 32 – 38

Abba, Father, Lord God, thankful for yesterday, grateful for today and how You continue to bless me with new memories, and always what I need for this day. Your hand is clearly visible, not as the human being see and hears, but as the spirit being feels. Continue to use this time to do Your work in me, while guiding my thoughts, and directing my words and actions. For while I do not know why or how, I know You are at work in me, and Your hand is guiding me day by day; so mine is to be alert to You in practicing Your presence and expecting Your will be done on earth as it is done in heaven; and my heaven on earth is knowing that work that I do is according to Your will and that l have set my house to seek and follow my Lord Jesus in the Spirit as You have planned. O Lord God that You would continue to bless me and mine, enlarging our territory while keeping us from evil and from causing pain by walking in faith, seeing with hope, and showing love for all others first. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
