The readings today all speak about fasting. Specifically, we hear in our Lord’s words an allusion to the fasting that will come when the Bridegroom is taken away—when Jesus Christ dies on Good Friday. On this Friday, remember that your fasting is in remembrance of Good Friday and unite your fast to the Lord out of love.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for continuing Your work in me. For a heart contrite and humbled, I seek knowing O God, you will not spurn. Hear my cries. As I slip into false righteousness, grab me, and remind me who I am and all I’ve been. Show me again and again how without You I am nothing. Take my mind off of me and focus my eyes and heart onto those poor souls alone and in need. Turn my thoughts into prayers for them. Place Your comforting hand upon them. Let them feel Your presence.
This is my prayer, praying that me and mine would be ready and willing sacrifice for those less fortunate. For Your blessings are beyond measure and we do easily keep our mind on ourselves ignore the need of others in front of us. Help see as You see, see what You see.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Pick Up Your Cross Daily

Today, Moses sets before us two paths—one leads to life and the other to death. Loving God is the path to life, and Lent is the perfect season to deny ourselves, take up our daily cross, and follow Christ. Pray for the grace to take up your cross in order to grow in discipleship of our Lord this Lent.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for assuring me of one thing. Jesus is my Lord and Savior. The truth and the way to life. There are so many things I don’t understand, but this I am sure.
So I seek to know You more, to be closer. Hoping that with each day I understand a little more about Your mysteries. Avoiding getting lost in the dogma of religion. Safe in my love, assurance that in Jesus I have and will find all I need. And He will reveal what I need to know, when I need it.
So I pray this without ceasing, that me and mine, and theirs. Will grow in our love and understanding of You God, through Jesus, with the Holy Spirit within us. Confident in Your love, mercy and grace. With a love and thirst for Your Word that never ceases, and nourishes our one walk with Jesus.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for walking with me and mine. For showing and teaches us how to acknowledge our sins before You, as difficult as it maybe. For letting us feel Your mercy and grace, that reminds us just how gracious and merciful You are. Encouraging us to work out giving what we accept; that is mercy, grace and love.
It seems like now move than ever in my life time to many are allowing their hearts to be hardened by the ways of this world. Having giving up on mercy, grace and love. Refusing to discipline themselves by focusing only on themselves, and not their neighbors.
So my prayer today is that of today’s verse… help us Lord God, through Jesus our Savior with the Holy Spirit within us to harden not our hearts, and return to You with all our heart. For only Jesus can save us from the path of hate and vengeance we are on.
Hear my prayer.

In today’s readings we hear a lot about bread. Bread is a central food of human history, and bread is at the center of God’s plan for us. Jesus Christ is present in the living bread of the Eucharist at every Mass. Reflect on the deep truth that we encounter the Risen Christ at every Mass in the mystery of the bread.

The man had relations with his wife Eve,
and she conceived and bore Cain, saying,
“I have produced a man with the help of the LORD.”
Next she bore his brother Abel.
Abel became a keeper of flocks, and Cain a tiller of the soil.
In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD
from the fruit of the soil,
while Abel, for his part,
brought one of the best firstlings of his flock.
The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
but on Cain and his offering he did not.
Cain greatly resented this and was crestfallen.
So the LORD said to Cain:
“Why are you so resentful and crestfallen.
If you do well, you can hold up your head;

So we must learn how through and in Jesus we can rule over sin, and do what is just and right.
So I pray for me and mine, and theirs. That just as Jesus instructed the disciples, we go out being as wise as serpents and harmless as doves. On our guard always, walking as one with Jesus.

“The one who bears the sore of leprosy
shall keep his garments rent and his head bare,
and shall muffle his beard;

The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.
He spread the report abroad
so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.
He remained outside in deserted places,

Christ Takes on Our Ailments

In today’s readings we see two accounts dealing with lepers. In the gospel account we see Jesus taking upon himself the consequences of leprosy spoken of in the Leviticus reading. Reflecting on these readings, Dr. Gray speaks of the incredible love of God, which takes on our ailments in order to free us from them.

Reading I Genesis 3:9-24

The LORD God called to Adam and asked him, “Where are you?”
He answered, “I heard you in the garden;
but I was afraid, because I was naked,
so I hid myself.”
Then he asked, “Who told you that you were naked?
You have eaten, then,
from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!”
The man replied, “The woman whom you put here with me
she gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it.”
The LORD God then asked the woman,
“Why did you do such a thing?”
The woman answered, “The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it.”
Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this, you shall be banned
from all the animals
and from all the wild creatures;
On your belly shall you crawl,
and dirt shall you eat
all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
He will strike at your head,
while you strike at his heel.”
To the woman he said:
“I will intensify the pangs of your childbearing;
in pain shall you bring forth children.
Yet your urge shall be for your husband,
and he shall be your master.”
To the man he said: “Because you listened to your wife
and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat,
“Cursed be the ground because of you!
In toil shall you eat its yield
all the days of your life.
Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to you,
as you eat of the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your face
shall you get bread to eat,
Until you return to the ground,
from which you were taken;
For you are dirt,
and to dirt you shall return.”
The man called his wife Eve,
because she became the mother of all the living.
For the man and his wife the LORD God made leather garments,
with which he clothed them.
Then the LORD God said: “See! The man has become like one of us,
knowing what is good and what is evil!
Therefore, he must not be allowed to put out his hand
to take fruit from the tree of life also,
and thus eat of it and live forever.”
The LORD God therefore banished him from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground from which he had been taken.
When he expelled the man,
he settled him east of the garden of Eden;
and he stationed the cherubim and the fiery revolving sword,
to guard the way to the tree of life.

Gospel Mark 8:1-10

In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat,
Jesus summoned the disciples and said,
“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,
because they have been with me now for three days
and have nothing to eat.
If I send them away hungry to their homes,
they will collapse on the way,
and some of them have come a great distance.”
His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread
to satisfy them here in this deserted place?”
Still he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”
They replied, “Seven.”
He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.
Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them,
and gave them to his disciples to distribute,
and they distributed them to the crowd.
They also had a few fish.
He said the blessing over them
and ordered them distributed also.
They ate and were satisfied.
They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets.
There were about four thousand people.
He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciples
and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

Taking Responsibility

In today’s reading from the Book of Genesis, Dr. Gray reflects on the Fall and ensuing blame passed around by Adam and Eve. We, just like Adam and Eve, are tempted to run from our sin and attempt to decrease our personal responsibility. Today, let us own our sin, trusting in God’s mercy, and run to him with it in order to be made new.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for helping me to truly look at myself. Who I am, and who You created me to be. To understand my fallen nature and how to discipline myself through one walk with Jesus. Such understanding seems to come easier for some, than others like me. But we are each uniquely created. Like understanding, wisdom is something we should always be praying for.
This is my prayer today, for me and mine and each of theirs. Help us understand ourselves and this world we journey through, and give us wisdom to know just how dependent we are on our Lord Jesus to navigate our journey wisely. Help us to take responsibility for our sins, and learn from our experiences. Knowing that You use all things for good.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.
