One Walk

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
To those who have had no agony Jesus says, “I have nothing for you; stand on your own feet, square your own shoulders. I have come for the man who knows he has a bigger handful than he can cope with, who knows there are forces he cannot touch; I will do everything for him if he will let Me. Only let a man grant he needs it, and I will do it for him.”
The Shadow of an Agony
Wisdom from Oswald Chambers

A verse…

"God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him…

Matthew 5:3

The Doorway to the Kingdom
My Utmost for His Highest
https://utmost.org/the-doorway-to-the-kingdom/

Beware of thinking of our Lord as only a teacher. If Jesus Christ is only a teacher, then all He can do is frustrate me by setting a standard before me I cannot attain. What is the point of presenting me with such a lofty ideal if I cannot possibly come close to reaching it? I would be happier if I never knew it. What good is there in telling me to be what I can never be— to be…

Matthew 5
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5&version=NLT

Matthew 5:1-12 NLT
[1] One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, [2] and he began to teach them.
[3] "God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
[4] God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
[5] God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
[6] God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
[7] God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
[8] God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
[9] God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.
[10] God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
[11] "God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.
[12] Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Most Saturdays I get to enjoy a long walk with Jesus. Unlike my daily fight to focus on Him. During this time I feel like I really get to exercise my faith and grow closer to Him. Whether I listen to His word or a book or my favorite worship music. It’s just me and Him. You see I firmly believe the difference between believer and follower is how much time we spend with Him, and the difference between follower and disciple is how much time we spend doing His work and spreading His gospel. Those not evenly yoked will never be able to understand and know what their missing.

A verse…
Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 NLT

A devotion…
Depending On God’s Presence
My Utmost for His Highest
https://utmost.org/dependent-on-god%E2%80%99s-presence/ Dependent on God’s Presence

There is no thrill for us in walking, yet it is the test for all of our steady and enduring qualities. To “walk and not faint” is the highest stretch possible as a measure of strength. The word walk is used in the Bible to express the character of a person— “…John…looking at Jesus as He walked…said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God!’ ” (John 1:35-36). There is nothing abstract or obscure in the Bible; everything is vivid and real. God does not say, “Be spiritual,” but He says, “Walk before Me…” (Genesis 17:1).

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Ever wonder why those closest to you can be the most hurtful, critical and quickest to judge and attack your faith when you trip or fall in action or word, or just don’t do or say what they want or expect you to. Before my Mom went to be with the Lord, I talked to her about wanting to understand more about what Jesus meant when He spoke the words in today’s verse. For I feel the answer to my question starts in these words of His.

A verse…

Matthew 13:57 NLT
Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.”

Mark 6:4 NLT
Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”

Luke 4:24 NLT
But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.

John 4:44 NLT
He himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown.

A prayer…

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior, hear my prayer. Give me the understanding and wisdom I need for today. Bless me and mine, keep us from evil and causing pain. Touch us, opening and likening our heart to Yours. Amen

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Have you ever been around someone obsessed with your happiness. So much so, that they don’t give you a chance to be. Maybe it’s because they don’t understand the difference between joy and happiness. Maybe even though they believe, they don’t really know or have a personal relationship with Jesus.

A verse…

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)

More thoughts…
Joy and happiness are wonderful feelings to experience, but are very different. Joy is more consistent and is cultivated internally. It comes when you make peace with who you are, why you are and how you are, whereas happiness tends to be externally triggered and is based on other people, things, places, thoughts and events.
https://www.psychologies.co.uk/joy-vs-happiness

For many, the words joy and happiness are the same. We don’t have a way to differentiate them. However, when we look at the ways we get joy, found in the Bible, we see that these two things are very different. We can have joy and be unhappy! Happiness comes from circumstances in our lives. When things go our way- we are happy. However, when things don’t go our way, we are no longer happy- but we can still have joy. Why is this – and how do we focus on joy and not happiness?
http://worshipfulliving.com/2017/01/13/joy-vs-happiness/

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior. You tell us to take up our cross and follow You. I pray for those who don’t know the joy that comes from following and having a relationship with and don’t understand how this differs from happiness. I am so thankful for all Your blessings, and fight to focus on You in every moment and to maintain a grateful spirit. Help them see this in me and a understand the peace and joy I have in and with You. Even when circumstances may keep me from being happy. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
We all can get lost and forget who we are, but through the Holy Spirit because of Jesus Christ, our Lord God is always with us. We are never alone.

A verse…

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Ephesians 1:5

CrossCards – Encouragement for Today, July 17, 2018
https://www.crosscards.com/devotionals/encouragement-for-today/encouragement-for-today-july-17-2018.html

If we as believers don’t fully embrace our identity as children of God, we become vulnerable to allowing circumstances, changes in titles and roles, life transitions and other people determine our identity and self-worth instead. What we do or don’t achieve, what our title or role is or isn’t, and what others think about us does not define who we are. Only God does. He is the source of our identity.

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” Romans 8:16 (NKJV)

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior. I was lost but now I’m found. Help me always remember my identity is found in You alone, and I am Yours, no matter how my life changes or what state I’m in. Help me see and love myself as You do. And most of all, love others unconditionally as You love us. Amen

Life is full of things that are not suppose to happen. What matters is where we fix our eyes and on whom we fix our hope.

Our world is a scary place. Shootings. Riots. Explosions. Natural disasters. It feels as if danger and uncertainty lurk around every corner. We don’t know what each day will hold. But, friend, we do know the One who holds our days.
We can be fearful and discouraged or we can be confident and encouraged. The choice is ours.
It matters where we fix our eyes and on whom we fix our hope.
God is our hope … our only true hope. (Psalm 62:5)
Run to the One who is your strength and your shield. (Psalm 28:7) The One who fights for you. (Exodus 14:14) The One whose presence will never leave you. Who will never forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior. All my hope is in You. During times of trouble. When my concern for one of mine consumes me. When things happen that are not supposed to. I fight to keep my eyes on You. I pray without ceasing for me and mine, and those who seek to take advantage during these times. Hear my prayers. Amen

1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 NLT
[5] For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. [6] So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. [7] Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. [8] But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior in whose name I pray. Oh that You would bless me and mine, as well as all those seeking, lost or angry with You. Help them see, feel and know what I know, feel and see as I look back. Without You there is nothing. No joy, no peace and no love. I can’t think of today without You. Just as I can’t Image a tomorrow without You. You always restore my faith, which renews my hope, and replenishes my love. That You would expand our territory for Your will and purpose. Teaching and guiding us step by step with eyes of faith and heart likened to Yours. Keeping us from evil and causing pain. For what more can we seek or ask for that to be one with You. Amen
