In the Song of Songs, the woman expresses her ardent longing for her beloved. This passage serves as an icon of the Church, the Bride of Christ, who eagerly anticipates the coming of her Bridegroom, Jesus. Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Thank You for all the ways You bring me closer to You. Help me, mine and theirs to know our role in the Theo-drama and learn to walk towards fulfillment of that role.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.

Is it not enough for you to weary men,

the angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,

But she was greatly troubled at what was said

Formed: Mary and Daughter Zion

Today we hear the angel Gabriel greet Mary at the Annunciation. Much of this greeting recalls a prophecy about Daughter Zion. Zion was the place of the Temple—the place God dwelt. Now, in Mary, there is a new dwelling place for God brought about by the power of the Holy Spirit in her womb. Let us grow in devotion to this chosen daughter and mother in this season where we recall her fulfillment of prophecy.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Thank You for loving us enough. For fulfilling Your prophecy through Mary, our Holy and Blessed Mother. For giving us Your Son. To fulfill Your love for us, and to make right the way for us to have a relationship with You.

With just five days till Christmas help us keep our eyes on Jesus and our hearts full of the joy He brings to the world.
This is my prayer. For me, and mine, and theirs.

 You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah
 too small to be among the clans of Judah,
 from you shall come forth for me
 one who is to be ruler in Israel;

 from ancient times.
 Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time
 when she who is to give birth has borne,
 and the rest of his kindred shall return
 to the children of Israel.
 He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock
 by the strength of the LORD,
 in the majestic name of the LORD, his God;
 and they shall remain, for now his greatness

Brothers and sisters:

Formed: Humble, Selfless, Faithful

On this Fourth Sunday of Advent, the readings show us that God exalts the humble and the selfless. By recognizing our lowliness and living in God’s love, we become great. This is seen perfectly in Mary, our Queen Mother. Her identity is firmly rooted in God, and her life is animated by a selfless, compassionate love.

Today’s Action Item: Have the humility, faith, and charity of our Blessed Mother

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Beautiful readings and reflection today… powerful is the message and example our Blessed Mother in showing and teaching us how to follow and grow closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praying without ceasing for the breath of Heaven to pour over and fill me, mine and theirs with what we need to seek and follow Your will Lord God. Humbling ourselves before You in selfless obedience. Walking with eyes of faith, and the charity of our Holy Mother.
Convict us in our moments of pride and selfishness. Continue to teach us in Your ways.
This is my prayer for me, mine and theirs.

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. 
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. 
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
decided to divorce her quietly. 
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,

He had no relations with her until she bore a son,

Formed: The Kingship of Christ

In today’s readings we hear the prophecy about a coming king. With the coming of the Christ child at Christmas, we celebrate the fulfillment of this prophecy. However, it is not only the Christmas story that is the fulfillment of this prophecy, but also the Second Coming of Christ at the end of time. As we look forward to Christmas, we also look forward to the Second Coming and the kingship of Christ that will be brought about in a new way.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
More and more as I read and listen to the readings, like today. I see similarities between the Israelites in the Old Testament and Christain’s today. We have fallen victim to our desires and pleasures, we have ignored and turned away from You. And while we were chasing false dreams we have allowed the evil one to use those willing to sell their souls to him for wealth and power to gain control of our government, and now they seek to control us by removing You from our life’s. So now just as so many of us are awakening to the error of our ways and wanting a relationship with You through Jesus our Lord and Savior. We are realizing just how close we are to losing our freedoms and right to follow and worship You our God. So I pray and cry out…
Come Lord Jesus we long for You. Come Lord Jesus we seek Your face. Come Lord Jesus fill this place.
Come Lord Jesus have Your way.
Help us stand up for You, give us the wisdom, courage and strength needed to do Your will by increasing our desire for Your kingship through Jesus’s Second Coming.
Not our will, but Yours Lord God.

Formed: Jacob’s Prophecy

Contained in today’s First Reading from Genesis 49 is a prophecy by the patriarch Jacob. Out of his twelve sons, he predicts that from the tribe of Judah will come a great king. Jesus, the Lion of Judah, is the true King who ushers in the Kingdom of God, fulfilling Jacob’s prophecy.

Gospel Luke 7:24-30

When the messengers of John the Baptist had left,
Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John. 
“What did you go out to the desert to see a reed swayed by the wind? 
Then what did you go out to see? 
Someone dressed in fine garments? 
Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuously
are found in royal palaces. 
Then what did you go out to see? 
A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 
This is the one about whom Scripture says:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
 he will prepare your way before you.
I tell you,
among those born of women, no one is greater than John;
yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”
(All the people who listened, including the tax collectors,
who were baptized with the baptism of John,
acknowledged the righteousness of God;
but the Pharisees and scholars of the law,
who were not baptized by him,
rejected the plan of God for themselves.)

Formed: Pointing to Jesus

Once more, today’s Gospel stresses the importance of John the Baptist. Contrasted to Herod, John is presented as a prophet, and more than that. None greater than John, his whole life and ministry points toward Jesus. Strive to be like John, living a life that is totally directed to Jesus.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me.
Today’s Gospel reading is beautiful, insightful and inspiring. I always read John words and what Jesus says about John in the Bible with such intensity. For I seek You, Jesus above all. To know and love You above all. And John is that voice that calls out to me… out of the darkness of this world. To always lead me to You. To encourage me to keep seeking You , know and love You more each day, above all.
Thank You for walking with me, for hearing my prayers for me, mine and theirs. For protecting us and blessing us. For keeping our ears tuned to Your voice.
Not our will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.

Formed: He Humbled Himself

In Isaiah’s writings, God’s grandeur and transcendence is displayed. From this perspective, we see how incredible the Incarnation is: the God of the universe was made flesh in the womb of Mary and born in a humble town. As we approach the celebration of this birth, let us heed John the Baptist’s call to repent, give alms, and pray.

Though I stumble and fall, I know You are with me. Teaching me what I need to learn and know to show Your presence in my life. This I know.
