OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotion, Worship Song and Prayer

Today’s verse

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28 NLT

2 Corinthians 6

2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NLT
[1] As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. [2] For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NLT
[14] Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. [15] He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

What are you living for? Really. What are you living for? Success? Status? Security? Significance?

In 2 Corinthians 5:14, the Apostle Paul answers this question, but in a slightly different form. Not “what are you living for?” but “whom are you living for?”

In 2 Corinthians 5:15 we read, “And [Christ] died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, I love You, I’m sorry, forgive me, thank You. Thank you for the life you give us through Christ. Thank you for the opportunity to live in a new way, not for ourselves, but for Christ. Help us to live for him, not in order to earn anything, but in response to his loving sacrifice. May we offer our lives freely and fully, with joy and gratitude. Amen.

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, thank you for the amazing, all-inclusive, transforming love of Christ. Thank you, dear Lord, for dying for all, including me. Thank you for demonstrating your love in this way, so that I might see it and know it and be changed by it. O Lord, may your love indeed compel me this day. May I remember your love and live out your love in all that I do. Help me, in particular, to love those with whom I work today. And may I do my work in response to your love and as a gesture of love for you. Amen.

Parable of the Evil Farmers

Matthew 21:32-40 NLT
[33] "Now listen to another story. A certain landowner planted a vineyard, built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country. [34] At the time of the grape harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share of the crop. [35] But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. [36] So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same. [37] "Finally, the owner sent his son, thinking, ‘Surely they will respect my son.’ [38] "But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another, ‘Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’ [39] So they grabbed him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and murdered him. [40] “When the owner of the vineyard returns,” Jesus asked, “what do you think he will do to those farmers?” …

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, thank You! I love you, and I am sorry for falling so short, forgive me. Through the Holy Spirit I keep getting up with Jesus as my focus. Seeking to grow closer and closer to Him. Striving for a relationship that is visible to all who know and see me. One where You are increasing and I am decreasing. This Holy Week of Easter I think of how much love Your Passion represents and means to those willing to open the door to their hearts and invite You in. Hosanna in the Highest. Amen

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Lord and Savior, I love You, I am sorry, forgive me, thank You. I am so grateful for your love for us. As the Apostle Paul said long ago, while we were your enemies, you died for us. Thank you for entering the dungeons of our lives and setting us free, inside as well as out. And thank you for your continued faithful presence with us, in the presence of our unfaithfulness of heart. Teach us to follow you and become your lead servants in the world. By your Spirit, give us grace that we might freely love the unlovable in our lives. We ask in your name, Amen.
