1 PETER 1:13-16—SET APART TO LIVE LIKE JESUS

To be “holy” is to be set apart. When Jesus came to earth, he didn’t do all of the same things that his buddies were doing. Sure, he did his chores and learned the family trade, but he lived differently. When the disciples wanted to “shoo” the children away, Jesus said no. When the crowds pushed the lepers away, Jesus pulled them close. When the religious people shunned the tax collectors, Jesus planned dinner at their house. Reflecting the words of Leviticus 11:44-45, the followers of Jesus are called to set themselves apart, not in isolation, but to stand apart from the expectations of culture in order to live and love like Jesus did. And that means we’re the ones who will pull over to help the homeless man on the corner, or sit down for a conversation with a family at the shelter, offering the spare bedroom in our home to someone who’s in need. Being holy means that our deepening relationship with Jesus sets us apart to reach others the way he did.

I seek His guidance likening my heart to His because I believe this quote… “Our behavior displays what’s in our hearts.”

So when I open my eyes each morning I pray this version of the Lords Prayer…

Our Father who art in heaven,

as it is in heaven.

In today’s world we are so concerned with finding an answer to the question ‘who am I?’ But we must first answer the question who do we think Jesus was? For it is only in and through You Lord Jesus that we can find truth. Truth about who we are and what are purpose is under the sun. So my prayer today is that all of us believers and unbelievers will contemplate and meditate on answer the question. You do we say You are. For me and mine “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Help us hold on to the truth, no matter what. Amen

Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus, today I contemplate and meditate on all You did for me (us). With caution I remind myself I could never fully know what You suffered for me (us). Not just the betrayal, loneliness, physical beating and scourging and crucifixiones, but the hell and separation from God the Abba Father, all for me (us). For when I try, I have to stop, realizing I could never comprehend fully what you experienced for me (us). It’s to much, I realize how much easier it is to sin, than to pay and atone for them. And just know how weak I am (we are). All I can do is fight to focus on You, praying without ceasing for forgiveness and reconcile myself to You.
