1 Corinthians 1:18-19 NLT
[18] The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
[19] As the Scriptures say, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent."

The Discipline of Dismay
My Utmost for His Highest
https://utmost.org/the-discipline-of-dismay/
There is an aspect of Jesus that chills even a disciple’s heart to its depth and makes his entire spiritual life gasp for air. This unusual Person with His face set “like a flint” (Isaiah 50:7) is walking with great determination ahead of me, and He strikes terror right through me. He no longer seems to be my Counselor and Friend and has a point of view about which I know nothing. All I can do is stand and stare at Him in amazement. At first I was confident that I understood Him, but now I am not so sure. I begin to realize that there is a distance between Jesus and me and I can no longer be intimate with Him. I have no idea where He is going, and the goal has become strangely distant.

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord, Abba Father, lately I feel like ‘I have no idea where You are going, and the goal has become strangely distant.’ Help me to walk as one with You, even when I feel I am lost and wandering. Give me eyes of faith and keep my heart likened to Yours. Let Your light shine through me, even when I am in the dark, so that others will see my dependence on You. Forever thankful for all Your mercy and grace. Amen

Today’s Bible Verse, Reading, Devotion, Worship Song and Prayer
Romans 6:16 NLT
Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Matthew 10:25-28 NLT
[25] Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names! [26] "But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. [27] What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear! [28] "Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
JESUS ANSWERS LIFE’S ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
MATTHEW 10:25-28—ESSENTIAL QUESTION: WILL EVERYTHING BE OK?
Jesus is no mere optimist—he doesn’t try to pump us up with empty promises or sunny predictions about the future. He always tells it like it is, never shying away from hard realities. If he were always trying to “spin” reality for us, we’d quickly descend into fear, because mere optimism has no real power to change our reality. And here he is painting a picture of reality for his disciples: They will face hard things as they go out in his name to bring his message of hope and redemption to people who need it, but they are to move in boldness, not fear. Everything, he says, will be exposed to the light in the end, and if the worst someone can do to us is kill our body, then we have nothing to worry about. If we believe we will live forever with him, then nothing—not even our physical death—can really destroy us.

My Utmost for His Highest

…No release or escape from it will ever come from any human power, but only through the power of redemption. You must yield yourself in utter humiliation to the only One who can break the dominating power in your life, namely, the Lord Jesus Christ. “…

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, thank You for this day, these Words, this time. While there is so much I don’t know or understand. I do this… Your grace is sufficient for me, for Your power is perfected in my weakness. For when I am weak, then I am strong. And… as I live in You, my love grows more perfect. In this I have hope that someone will see Your grace and love in me, and choose to get to know You. Amen

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, as I fight to stay focused on You through each day. I realize that as the daily grind consumes me, and I drift between the conscious fight and my subconscious tendencies. You are there. So I fight all the more. Wanting my conscious focus and my subconscious tendency to become one. It’s like as the daily grind tries to consume me, You consume the daily grind. Rescuing me from myself by directing my steps, thoughts, actions and what I say or don’t say. Thank You Lord for holding my hand. Amen
