If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 05/08/2010

< >< My Prayer >< >

Abba Father, Lord Jesus, in the Spirit, one God the Abba Father, Christ Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit create in me a clean heart, renew a right spirit within me, for one walk in and with Jesus.

I feel the secret and wisdom hidden in today’s Devotional and Gospel, and feel the relationship between how I have viewed and handled the problems and troubles I face in this world, and I how I should view and handle my place in this world; as well as I I must look at my time in this world as compared to eternity. Yet even as I try to sit with You now and write these thoughts I am pulled away and problems and troubles are thrown at me, as if to break the feeling I have and stop me from gaining anymore insight into Your secrets and wisdom. For just as I feel I You have chosen me out of this world, I feel others and problems wanting to keep me in this world. There is so much I want to share and discuss with You, but I need to find strength and wisdom, and be smarter in how and when I come to You so I can complete the moments without interruption or disruption.

So I ask that You would finish that which You have begun in me, teaching that which You want me to know for completion of Your will and purpose; giving me that understanding and knowledge which is sufficient for this day, to overcome.

This I pray in Jesus name, asking that You bless me and mine for fulfillment of Your will; in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

May – “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” Psalm 29:2

Today – DO NOT LONG for the absence of problems in your life. That is an unrealistic goal, since in this world you will have trouble. You have an eternity of problem-free living reserved for you in heaven. Rejoice in that inheritance, which no one can take away from you, but do not seek your heaven on earth.

Begin each day anticipating problems, asking Me to equip you for whatever difficulties you will encounter. The best equipping is My living Presence, My hand that never lets go of yours. Discuss everything with Me. Take a lighthearted view of trouble, seeing it as a challenge that you and I together can handle. Remember that I am on your side, and I have overcome the world.

Reading 1 Acts 16:1-10

Paul reached also Derbe and Lystra

where there was a disciple named Timothy,

the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer,

but his father was a Greek.

The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke highly of him,

and Paul wanted him to come along with him.

On account of the Jews of that region, Paul had him circumcised,

for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

As they traveled from city to city,

they handed on to the people for observance the decisions

reached by the Apostles and presbyters in Jerusalem.

Day after day the churches grew stronger in faith

and increased in number.

They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory

because they had been prevented by the Holy Spirit

from preaching the message in the province of Asia.

When they came to Mysia, they tried to go on into Bithynia,

but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them,

so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas.

During the night Paul had a vision.

A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words,

“Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

When he had seen the vision,

we sought passage to Macedonia at once,

concluding that God had called us to proclaim the Good News to them.

Responsorial Psalm Ps 100:1b-2, 3, 5

R.          (2a)  Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;

serve the LORD with gladness;

come before him with joyful song.

R.          Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Know that the LORD is God;

he made us, his we are;

his people, the flock he tends.

R.          Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

The LORD is good:

his kindness endures forever,

and his faithfulness, to all generations.

R.          Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Gospel Jn 15:18-21

Jesus said to his disciples:

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.

If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;

but because you do not belong to the world,

and I have chosen you out of the world,

the world hates you.

Remember the word I spoke to you,

‘No slave is greater than his master.’

If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.

If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,

because they do not know the one who sent me.”

< >< Today’s Video Reflection >< >

There are many who say to the Lord, “I give myself wholly to Thee, without any reserve,” but there are few who embrace the practice of this abandonment, which consists in receiving with a certain indifference every sort of event, as it happens in conformity with Divine Providence, as well afflictions as consolations, contempt and reproaches as honor and glory.
