My Daily Prayers and Readings for 07/30/2010

< >< My Prayer >< >

As much as any other Words of Jesus, today’s Gospel has caused me to contemplate and meditate on His meaning to man and thoughts as man. I have looked to Jesus’ words often when thinking about making a decision or about a decision I have made. From Jesus’ perspective I have wondered didn’t these people from His home town notice or know He was Divine, even as a child; and if so, was it the their fallen human nature buried in pride and envy that kept them from realizing who He was, but then there are many examples of this elsewhere, even within His disciples, or was it as He began His ministry that He went from special to unacceptable in their eyes. I think of myself and others who once accepting the His call are still viewed and thought of by those supposed to be most intimate as was, rather than is, unable to see the ‘am’ of what we are and are all meant to be through and in Jesus. O Lord reveal that which is in line with Your will for me to understand and know, and give me the grace to accept that which I don’t, and most of all show me how to find and hold on to contentment in either situation remembering and living the prayer of St. Francis –

Dear Abba Father,

make me an channel of Your peace.

where there is hatred, let me bring Your love;

where there is injury, Your pardon love; and

where there is doubt, Your faith in You;

where there is a despaired life, let me bring hope;

where there is darkness, only light;

and where there is sadness, ever joy.

O, Divine Master,

grant that I may never seek so much

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love with all my soul;

make me an channel of Your peace.

it is in pardoning that we are pardon love;

it is in giving of ourselves that we receive;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Abba Father in the name of Christ Jesus who lives within me through the Holy Spirit I pray that You create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me, for my one walk in and with Jesus today. Asking that You bless me and mine in fulfillment of Your will and keep us from evil and pain. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

July – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

Today – WORSHIP ME in the beauty of holiness. I created beauty to declare the existence of My holy Being. A magnificent rose, a hauntingly glorious sunset, oceanic splendor—all these things were meant to proclaim My Presence in the world. Most people rush past these proclamations without giving them a second thought. Some people use beauty, especially feminine loveliness, to sell their products.

How precious are My children who are awed by nature’s beauty; this opens them up to My holy Presence. Even before you knew Me personally, you responded to My creation with wonder. This is a gift, and it carries responsibility with it. Declare My glorious Being to the world. The whole earth is full of My radiant beauty—My Glory!

Reading 1 Jer 26:1-9

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim,
son of Josiah, king of Judah,
this message came from the LORD:
Thus says the LORD:
Stand in the court of the house of the LORD
and speak to the people of all the cities of Judah
who come to worship in the house of the LORD;
whatever I command you, tell them, and omit nothing.
Perhaps they will listen and turn back,
each from his evil way,
so that I may repent of the evil I have planned to inflict upon them
for their evil deeds.
Say to them: Thus says the LORD:
If you disobey me,
not living according to the law I placed before you
and not listening to the words of my servants the prophets,
whom I send you constantly though you do not obey them,
I will treat this house like Shiloh,
and make this the city to which all the nations of the earth
shall refer when cursing another.

Now the priests, the prophets, and all the people
heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the LORD.
When Jeremiah finished speaking
all that the LORD bade him speak to all the people,
the priests and prophets laid hold of him, crying,
“You must be put to death!
Why do you prophesy in the name of the LORD:
‘This house shall be like Shiloh,’ and
‘This city shall be desolate and deserted’?”
And all the people gathered about Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

Responsorial Psalm Ps 69:5, 8-10, 14

R. (14c) Lord, in your great love, answer me.
Those outnumber the hairs of my head
who hate me without cause.
Too many for my strength
are they who wrongfully are my enemies.
Must I restore what I did not steal?
R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.
Since for your sake I bear insult,
and shame covers my face.
I have become an outcast to my brothers,
a stranger to my mother’s sons,
Because zeal for your house consumes me,
and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me.
R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.
But I pray to you, O LORD,
for the time of your favor, O God!
In your great kindness answer me
with your constant help.
R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.

Gospel Mt 13:54-58

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.
They were astonished and said,
“Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?
Is he not the carpenter’s son?
Is not his mother named Mary
and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
Are not his sisters all with us?
Where did this man get all this?”
And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and in his own house.”

And he did not work many mighty deeds there
because of their lack of faith.
