My Daily Prayers and Readings for 01/16/2010
< >< My Daily Prayer >< >
Abba Father, Lord Jesus, in the Spirit, Help me! Today’s readings are filled with meaning that can only be felt not seen; hearing we are called to feel what is in our heart not what is in our mind. For too many times the mind is led by the ways under the sun, exposed the original temptations that have been our falling since Adam and Eve wanting to know and understand that which we cannot understand and thus not know for sure; but the heart only feels, feeling what it feels as one knows what one wants to know. From birth the seed You planted in our hearts is calling, but we are not listening and even if told and taught to listening far too often we let the sounds and ways under the sun drown out ‘the call’.
The call to follow Jesus, to know and love You, to learn to listen to the Spirit. Jesus tells us in many ways “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” But this requires practice, practicing His presence and practicing listening. We must open our minds through our hearts to the inevitable, we will not know for certain until we stand before You with Jesus by Your right side covered in the Holy Spirit. You do not command us, we are free to choose. To choose wisely we must be strong and courageous in ways that are not taught under the sun and can only be learned in and through the Son. We must not think as the world under the sun thinks, but follow as only the heart can lead us to follow’ the call.’ We cannot become terrified; or allow ourselves to get discouraged, we must learn to walk with You in the Sprit through Jesus; one Walk in all things. Always returning to ‘the call’, “come to me”, “follow me”, seeking and practicing Your presence. Help me Jesus!
In Jesus name I ask and pray, that You bless me and mine for fulfillment of Your will and that You create in me a clean heart, renew a right spirit within me, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

January – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Today – COME TO ME, and rest in My loving Presence. You know that this day will bring difficulties, and you are trying to think your way through those trials. As you anticipate what is ahead of you, you forget that I am with you-now and always. Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they actually occur. Do not multiply your suffering in this way! Instead, come to Me, and relax in My Peace. T will strengthen you and prepare you for this day, transforming your fear into confident trust.

Reading I
1 Sm 9:1-4, 17-19; 10:1
There was a stalwart man from Benjamin named Kish,
who was the son of Abiel, son of Zeror,
son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite.
He had a son named Saul, who was a handsome young man.
There was no other child of Israel more handsome than Saul;
he stood head and shoulders above the people.
Now the asses of Saul’s father, Kish, had wandered off.
Kish said to his son Saul, “Take one of the servants with you
and go out and hunt for the asses.”
Accordingly they went through the hill country of Ephraim,
and through the land of Shalishah.
Not finding them there,
they continued through the land of Shaalim without success.
They also went through the land of Benjamin,
but they failed to find the animals.
When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD assured him,
“This is the man of whom I told you; he is to govern my people.”
Saul met Samuel in the gateway and said,
“Please tell me where the seer lives.”
Samuel answered Saul: “I am the seer.
Go up ahead of me to the high place and eat with me today.
In the morning, before dismissing you,
I will tell you whatever you wish.”
Then, from a flask he had with him, Samuel poured oil on Saul’s head;
he also kissed him, saying:
“The LORD anoints you commander over his heritage.
You are to govern the LORD’s people Israel,
and to save them from the grasp of their enemies roundabout.
“This will be the sign for you
that the LORD has anointed you commander over his heritage.”
Responsorial Psalm
21:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
R. (2a) Lord, in your strength the king is glad.
O LORD, in your strength the king is glad;
in your victory how greatly he rejoices!
You have granted him his heart’s desire;
you refused not the wish of his lips.
R. Lord, in your strength the king is glad.
For you welcomed him with goodly blessings,
you placed on his head a crown of pure gold.
He asked life of you: you gave him
length of days forever and ever.
R. Lord, in your strength the king is glad.
Great is his glory in your victory;
majesty and splendor you conferred upon him.
For you made him a blessing forever;
you gladdened him with the joy of your face.
R. Lord, in your strength the king is glad.
Gospel
Mk 2:13-17
Jesus went out along the sea.
All the crowd came to him and he taught them.
As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus,
sitting at the customs post.
Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
And he got up and followed Jesus.
While he was at table in his house,
many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus and his disciples;
for there were many who followed him.
Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with sinners
and tax collectors and said to his disciples,
“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus heard this and said to them,
“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

God has deemed it better to bring good out of evil than not to permit evil at all.
