Silence and Spiritual Walking

June 15, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
In today’s devotion we are told to ‘ask the Lord to help you guard our tongue and avoid the trap of foolishness that masquerades as too many words without wisdom’. For far to long I’ve only thought of this when comes to communicating with others, not so much God. DID I have it wrong! I (we) need to fear the Lord God in a good way, but still fear Him. For He will hold us accountable for what we say and promise Him.

A verse…

Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.
Ecclesiastes 5:7

A reading and devotion…

Silence and Spiritual Walking: Many Words are Foolish

Today in the Word

https://www.todayintheword.org/issues/2018/06—june/devotions/15/

Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 NLT
[1] As you enter the house of God, keep You your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God. [2] Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few. [3] Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool. [4] When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. [5] It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. [6] Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved. [7] Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.

To fear the Lord, then, is to avoid the trap of many words and to exercise self-discipline of the tongue (v. 7). The word meaningless connects this point with the main theme of Ecclesiastes. Language is created by God; therefore, words have significance, meaning, and power and should be handled with caution and reverence.

A prayer…
O God, Abba Father, Lord Jesus head my prayer. Let me be quick to forgive and slow to speak before You and those You place before.
Amen

Walking in surrender; gracefully broken

June 14, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
In endurance sports such as cycling and running, ‘hitting the wall’ is a condition of sudden fatigue and loss of energy, which is caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles. I believe we can hit the wall spiritually and mentally too. When we try to rely on our own understanding and strength, rather than God’s. You see, I also believe God created us with the need to be in a relationship with Him. It’s a whole in our heart and life that only He can fill. When we try to go it alone we will ‘hit the wall’. Jesus through the Holy Spirit within us is the way. He is our life coach and Savior.

A verse…

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29 NLT

A reading…
Matthew 11:25,27-30 NLT

[25] At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. [27] "My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." [28] Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior,
Take all I have in these hands
And multiply, God, all that I am
And find my heart on the altar again
Set me on fire, set me on fire
Here I am, God
Arms wide open
Pouring out my life
Gracefully broken
My heart stands in awe of Your name
Your mighty love stands strong to the end
You will fulfill Your purpose for me
You won’t forsake me, You will be with me
All to Jesus now
Holding nothing back
I surrender
I surrender
Amen

Walking on Empty

June 13, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Today’s devotion tells us that David wrote Psalm 30 for the dedication of the temple he wasn’t allowed to build. It may also be connected to his census of Israel, followed by God’s discipline (see 2 Samuel 24). Yet he still praised the Lord! We too can praise Him no matter what. Tough circumstances? God is in control. Sin? God forgives. This is the day that the Lord has made!

A verse…

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

A devotion …
Devine Silence? Our Feeling of Emptiness
Today in the Word

https://www.todayintheword.org/issues/2018/06—june/devotions/13/

Read Psalm 30
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+30&version=NLT

Elijah had been feeling spiritually empty. He needed to know that God not only acts through impressive miracles but also shows His love in smaller and more personal ways…

…With faith that anticipates God’s answer, David ends this psalm with praise (vv. 11–12). Silence will be transformed into praise, weeping into dancing, and grief into joy! The feeling that our final destiny is the pit of death is a horrible one—but not a true one. Faith knows God will be faithful.

A prayer…
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, Jesus my Savior I just need You. When I feel I can’t go on and don’t know what to do. I turn to You. For in my emptiness, I know You are there. Like the psalmist in today’s reading, I know…
Sing to the LORD, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. Amen

Keep Walking

June 12, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Beware of pronouncing any verdict on the life of faith if you are not living it.

Wisdom from Oswald Chambers
from Not Knowing Whither, 900 R

A verse…

“I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
Matthew 17:20

A devotion …
Getting There (2)

My Utmost for His Highest
https://utmost.org/getting-there-2/

“You are Simon….You shall be called Cephas” (John 1:42). God writes our new name only on those places in our lives where He has erased our pride, self-sufficiency, and self-interest. Some of us have our new name written only in certain spots, like spiritual measles. And in those areas of our lives we look all right. When we are in our best spiritual mood, you would think we were the highest quality saints. But don’t dare look at us when we are not in that mood. A true disciple is one who has his new name written all over him— self-interest, pride, and self-sufficiency have been completely erased.

A prayer…
O God, Abba Father, Jesus my Lord and Savior. Help me to keep walking by faith. Unwavering, unyielding, unstoppable faith. Faith that no one and no situation is beyond You. Nothing is impossible. Amen

Walking with Strength and Song

June 11, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
Our faith is founded upon the rock-solid character of God. To trust Him with our needs and anxieties is both a privilege and a necessity. Too often, we indulge in worry or try to take care of things ourselves. Today, prayerfully break that habit and instead “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7; cf. Ps. 55:22).

Today’s thought from Today in the Word Devotion
https://www.todayintheword.org/issues/2018/06—june/devotions/11/

A verse…

O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways.
Proverbs 23:26 (NLT)

A devotion …
Jesus Calling
June 11

TRUST ME and don’t be afraid, for I am your Strength and Song. Do not let fear dissipate your energy. Instead, invest your energy in trusting Me and singing My Song. The battle for control of your mind is fierce, and years of worry have made you vulnerable to the enemy. Therefore, you need to be vigilant in guarding your thoughts. Do not despise this weakness in yourself since I am using it to draw you closer to Me. Your constant need for Me creates an intimacy that is well worth all the effort. You are not alone in this struggle for your mind. My Spirit living within you is ever ready to help in this striving. Ask Him to control your mind; He will bless you with Life and Peace.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Isaiah 12:2

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
Romans 8:9

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6

A prayer…
Dear God, Abba Father, Jesus my Lord and Savior. Like David, ‘I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.’ (Psalm 109:22) How can I help others, if I can’t help myself. Only in and through You can I find the strength and song to carry on and rise above myself for others. This is my prayer today. Guide me, give me the words to say, fill me with the strength of Jesus and put a song in my heart. Help me, help others. Amen

Just finished listening to Orthodoxy by G. K. Chesterton

June 9, 2018

I finished listening to Orthodoxy by G. K. Chesterton, narrated by John Lee on my Audible app.

Enjoyed it, give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Found it thoughtful and truthful. Can see why it is a Christian Classic. Orthodoxy (1908) is a book by G. K. Chesterton that has become a classic of Christian apologetics. Chesterton considered this book a companion to his other work, Heretics, writing it expressly in response to G.S. Street’s criticism of the earlier work, “that he was not going to bother about his theology until I had really stated mine”. In the book’s preface Chesterton states the purpose is to “attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it.” (Wikipedia)

Don’t Just Ask, Just Ask

June 9, 2018

Walking with Jesus…

OneWalk: Under the Sun, with the Son

A thought…
There are many truths that Jesus has revealed to me. Some easier to understand than others. I think that’s because, some seem natural to the real me, while others contradict with worldly me. But what is the real me; and how and why does it contradict with worldly me. I believe this truth. There is the me God created me to be. And there is the me that the world under the sun has influenced me to be. The questions I asked of God, and the questions I asked of others reflects which me is asking.

A devotion or two…
Then What’s Next To Do?

My Utmost for His Highest
https://utmost.org/then-what%E2%80%99s-next-to-do/

Everyone who asks receives…
Luke 11:10

The word ask actually means “beg.” Some people are poor enough to be interested in their poverty, and some of us are poor enough spiritually to show our interest. Yet we will never receive if we ask with a certain result in mind, because we are asking out of our lust, not out of our poverty. A pauper does not ask out of any reason other than the completely hopeless and painful condition of his poverty. He is not ashamed to beg— blessed are the paupers in spirit (see Matthew 5:3).

Revolutionary Communicator: Asking Questions
Life for Leaders Daily Devotion
https://mailchi.mp/depree.org/revolutionary-communicator-asking-questions?e=1bc587c115

What do you want me to do for you?”
Mark 10:51a

When a blind beggar cries out to Jesus for mercy, Jesus decides to ask the man what he wants. Isn’t it obvious? A blind beggar obviously needs to be healed! But Jesus respects the man by not assuming, but instead asking an empowering question that allows for the one in need to express his desire. Just this one observation of Jesus’s leadership speaks volumes to how we should engage with those we serve.

A prayer…
Dear God, Abba Father, Jesus my Lord and Savior, help me become better at asking questions that lead people to make important changes in their lives and in the world. Empower me to live a life that causes others to ask the right kinds of questions about your Lordship, the brokenness in this world, and our role to join you in making it better. Today, I choose to not forfeit my soul for temporary things but to invest in your kingdom with my whole self. Amen.
