What man… having a hundred sheep, if he loses one… does not leave the ninety-nine… and go after the one which is lost?

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 10/05/2013

the-parable-of-the-lost-sheepWhat man . . . having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost?

< >< My Prayer >< >

I was lost but Jesus found me— Found the sheep that went astray,  Threw His loving arms around me, Drew me back into His way. —Rowley1

Lord Jesus, You have shown me, I can believe, but not follow; but I cannot follow without wanting to become a disciple. This truth I have grown to understand and learned I cannot do it alone. I must die to myself, so there can be more of You and less of me. And in this I become what Our Father created me to be. So I must start each day with a pure heart, and renew a steadfast spirit. My one walk in and with You, must be free of judgement and full of forgiveness and love. I must stay stay strong in You and Your almighty power. (r or l)  Remembering that if I get nothing else done this day, let me spend it loving You and others first, as You love me. Praying without ceasing in the Spirit for me and mine in fulfillment of Your will, and for those You place in my path. Asking that whenever I speak, words may be given to me, so that I will fearlessly make known the truth in the mystery of the gospel – one walk. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?

June 25, 2013

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 06/25/2013

Covetousness Denounced – Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?” Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?

November 17, 2012

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 11/17/2012

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?

< >< My Prayer >< >

Abba Father “I have set You always before me.”1 But like the fool in today’s verse from Jesus’ parable this was not always so.2 So I humbly come to You in the name of Jesus Christ who lives within me through the Holy Spirit so that You would create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast spirit within me, for my one walk in and with You. That You will show and teach me how to be a channel of Your peace and love at all times and in all situations with all people. That You will help me stand having girded my waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod my feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which I will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one, and keep You before me. Always praying that You continue to bless me and mine in fulfillment of Your will, and keep us from evil and pain; reminding us that if we get nothing else done this day, let us spend it loving You and others first, as You love us. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

January 31, 2011

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 1/28/2011

< >< My Prayer >< >

When things stop me from having my time with You as I plan to or think is best, I am learning to spend less time trying to fix things so I can do as I planned and more time looking for what new thing You want to show, teach or make me aware of; using this day to stay closer to You throughout conscious awareness of my need for You throughout the day, in every moment.

Abba Father in the name of Christ Jesus who lives within me through the Holy Spirit I pray that You create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me, for my one walk in and with Jesus today. Asking that You bless me and mine in fulfillment of Your will and keep us from evil and pain; and if we get nothing else done this day, let us spend it loving You and others as You love us. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

BUT IT IS HARDLY CREDIBLE THAT ONE COULD SO PERSECUTE JESUS!

“Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?” Acts 26:14

Am I set on my own way for God? We are never free from this snare until we are brought into the experience of the baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire. Obstinacy and self-will will always stab Jesus Christ. It may hurt no one else, but it wounds His Spirit. Whenever we are obstinate and self-willed and set upon our own ambitions, we are hurting Jesus. Every time we stand on our rights and insist that this is what we intend to do, we are persecuting Jesus. Whenever we stand on our dignity we systematically vex and grieve His Spirit; and when the knowledge comes home that it is Jesus Whom we have been persecuting all the time, it is the most crushing revelation there could be.

Is the word of God tremendously keen to me as I hand it on to you, or does my life give the lie to the things I profess to teach? I may teach sanctification and yet exhibit the spirit of Satan, the spirit that persecutes Jesus Christ. The Spirit of Jesus is conscious of one thing only – a perfect oneness with the Father, and He says, “Learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart.” All I do ought to be founded on a perfect oneness with Him, not on a self-willed determination to be godly. This will mean that I can be easily put upon, easily over-reached, easily ignored; but if I submit to it for His sake, I prevent Jesus Christ being persecuted.

How many sins have entered into the soul through the eye as Holy Scripture indicates? [1 Jn. 2:16]. That is why they must fast by keeping them lowered and not permitting them to look upon frivolous and unlawful objects; the ears, by depriving them of listening to vain talk which serves only to fill the mind with worldly images; the tongue, in not speaking idle words and those which savor of the world or the things of the world. We ought also to cut off useless thoughts, as well as vain memories and superfluous appetites and desires of our will. In short, we ought to hold in check all those things which keep us from loving or tending to the Sovereign Good. — St. Francis de Sales

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

January 26, 2011

My Daily Prayers and Readings for 1/26/2011

< >< My Prayer >< >

I humbly come to You today hoping to do my part by trying to stay consciously in the now of the moment with You throughout this day, asking that You help me to stay in the Spirit expecting to see You in each moment, ready to respond to Your will. Focusing on not letting myself get anxious or worry about anything for having felt that You ‘did not give me a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control’ and in through Jesus I can finally start to fulfill my promises to You with my first fruits and in doing to Your purpose for me by keeping my mind as rich soil.

LOOK AGAIN AND CONSECRATE

“If God so clothe the grass of the field . . . shall He not much more clothe you?” Matthew 6:30

A simple statement of Jesus is always a puzzle to us if we are not simple. How are we going to be simple with the simplicity of Jesus? By receiving His Spirit, recognizing and relying on Him, obeying Him as He brings the word of God, and life will become amazingly simple. “Consider,” says Jesus, “how much more your Father Who clothes the grass of the field will clothe you, if you keep your relationship right with Him.” Every time we have gone back in spiritual communion it has been because we have impertinently known better than Jesus Christ. We have allowed the cares of the world to come in, and have forgotten the “much more” of our Heavenly Father.

“Behold the fowls of the air” – their main aim is to obey the principle of life that is in them and God looks after them. Jesus says that if you are rightly related to Him and obey His Spirit that is in you, God will look after your ‘feathers.’

“Consider the lilies of the field” – they grow where they are put. Many of us refuse to grow where we are put, consequently we take root nowhere. Jesus says that if we obey the life God has given us, He will look after all the other things. Has Jesus Christ told us a lie? If we are not experiencing the “much more,” it is because we are not obeying the life God has given us, we are taken up with confusing considerations. How much time have we taken up worrying God with questions when we should have been absolutely free to concentrate on His work? Consecration means the continual separating of myself to one particular thing. We cannot consecrate once and for all. Am I continually separating myself to consider God every day of my life?

< >< Today in the Word Devotion >< >

You are robbing me. – Malachi 3:9

Two principles that should guide our giving are regularity and firstfruits. Regularity means that we set aside money for God at regular intervals. This means including giving in our regular budgets (1 Cor. 16:2). Firstfruits means that we honor the Lord by giving to Him first (Prov. 3:9-10). Our giving is not done after all other expenses have been met. That’s the mistake Malachi exposed in today’s reading—we are not to put our own “houses” ahead of God’s house or worshiping Him.
