Reading I Acts 14:19-28

In those days, some Jews from Antioch and Iconium
arrived and won over the crowds.
They stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city,
supposing that he was dead.
But when the disciples gathered around him,
he got up and entered the city.
On the following day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.
After they had proclaimed the good news to that city
and made a considerable number of disciples,
they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch.
They strengthened the spirits of the disciples
and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying,
“It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships
to enter the Kingdom of God.”
They appointed presbyters for them in each Church and,
with prayer and fasting, commended them to the Lord
in whom they had put their faith.
Then they traveled through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
After proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia.
From there they sailed to Antioch,
where they had been commended to the grace of God
for the work they had now accomplished.
And when they arrived, they called the Church together
and reported what God had done with them
and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.
Then they spent no little time with the disciples.

‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’

The Heavenly Shalom
We are often tempted to look for peace in worldly things—things that inevitably pass away. But through Christ, we are invited into a peace that can endure any conflict and any suffering, including even death itself. This peace is right relationship with God, and it can only be found through living lives of faith. By following Christ, we access the heavenly shalom!

We miss out on the Miraculous because we are not willing to risk asking God for the extraordinary. Yet taking a risk to trust Him and act on His word is part of prayer, part of faith. Joshua risks looking foolish by telling his whole army to shout instead of fight at Jericho. The Lord rewards his act of obediant faith and tears down the walls of Jericho.

My prayer…

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for bringing me the peace that only You can give each morning. While some days it may not last as long as others. I know that if I seek it I will find it in You. I just need to stay connected.
For have have seen Your hand at work in my life. I count every blessing. I surround myself in all things about You. I pray without ceasing… for me and mine, and theirs. Hear me Lord, hear my prayers.
Not my will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.

Today, we celebrate the feast of Saints Philip and James, two heroic witnesses to the faith. These men spread the Gospel to many, and each were granted the red crown of martyrdom. As you invoke these saints today, we encourage you to ask them for an increase in faith and an understanding of the Father’s heart. Let them be role models during your earthly sojourn!

So many complicate it, so many try to deceive us about it and everyone finds it differently. But in ends and starts with You. And if we let go and approach You with the innocence of a child we see it clearly.
So I keep praying for me and mine and theirs, that we will stay out of Your way and let You consume us with Your truth.

Reading I Acts 9:26-31

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples,
but they were all afraid of him,
not believing that he was a disciple.
Then Barnabas took charge of him and brought him to the apostles,
and he reported to them how he had seen the Lord,
and that he had spoken to him,
and how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.
He moved about freely with them in Jerusalem,
and spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.
He also spoke and debated with the Hellenists,
but they tried to kill him.
And when the brothers learned of this,
they took him down to Caesarea
and sent him on his way to Tarsus.
The church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was at peace.
It was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord,
and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit it grew in numbers.

Abide in the Word

Saul, who had persecuted the early Church, shocked the community of disciples when he expressed his desire to join them. However, Barnabas trusted the intentions of Saul and brought him to the Apostles. Barnabas’s courageous charity was made possible because of his faith; he allowed the Word of God to abide in his heart. Let us pray that we too can abide in Christ, and thereby become fruitful branches of the true Vine!

You tell me what I need to do to keep growing in faith and understanding… remain in You, and You will remain in me.
So this is my prayer for me and mine, and theirs. That we do just that… no matter what the new day brings and our walk takes us through, we remain in You above all, and You in us.

Reading I Acts 13:44-52

On the following sabbath
almost the whole city
gathered to hear the word of the Lord.
When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy
and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said.
Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said,
“It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first,
but since you reject it
and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life,
we now turn to the Gentiles.
For so the Lord has commanded us,
I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
 that you may be an instrument of salvation
 to the ends of the earth.”
The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this
and glorified the word of the Lord.
All who were destined for eternal life came to believe,
and the word of the Lord continued to spread
through the whole region.
The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers
and the leading men of the city,
stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas,
and expelled them from their territory.
So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them
and went to Iconium.
The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to Jesus,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for walking with me and mine. For showing us our God and Abba Father in Your face. This world isn’t what we were created for. This path wasn’t Your choosing but ours, but You never abandoned us. Always with us, calling us each by name. Open our ears to hear You, and hearts to accept what You are teaching us.

When Paul came to Antioch in Pisidia, he said in the synagogue:
“My brothers, children of the family of Abraham,
and those others among you who are God-fearing,
to us this word of salvation has been sent.
The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him,
and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets
that are read sabbath after sabbath.
For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence,
they asked Pilate to have him put to death,
and when they had accomplished all that was written about him,
they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb.
But God raised him from the dead,
and for many days he appeared to those

The Stability of Faith

Even though the world is filled with troubles, we have stability through our faith in Jesus Christ. Today, we hear Christ promise that he is preparing a place for us. In this hope we can stand strong amidst all difficulties. May we all pray to live in the hope that comes from our life in Christ, who is the Way to eternal life.

Most of all stop doing that which I don’t want to do, and do that which I do.
You bless me beyond measure. Blessing me with each of mine, and each of mine with each of theirs.

From Paphos, Paul and his companions
set sail and arrived at Perga in Pamphylia.
But John left them and returned to Jerusalem.
They continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia.
On the sabbath they entered into the synagogue and took their seats.
After the reading of the law and the prophets,
the synagogue officials sent word to them,

I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.’“

Today, in the Gospel of John, we hear the amazing words of Christ as he says, "Whoever receives the one I send receives me" (13:20). Therefore, when we receive the Apostles–who were sent by Christ—and their successors we are receiving Christ. Let us thank God today for his continued presence with us through the ministry of the Church in the Apostles and sacraments.

This is my prayer… that I will continue and that each of mine and each of theirs. Will learn to welcome everyone You place in our path. With an open mind and heart. With eyes of faith, and a discerning spirit. Trusting You.

Reading I Acts 12:24—13:5a

The word of God continued to spread and grow.
After Barnabas and Saul completed their relief mission,
they returned to Jerusalem,
taking with them John, who is called Mark.
Now there were in the Church at Antioch prophets and teachers:
Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene,
Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul
for the work to which I have called them.”
Then, completing their fasting and prayer,
they laid hands on them and sent them off.
So they, sent forth by the Holy Spirit,
went down to Seleucia
and from there sailed to Cyprus.
When they arrived in Salamis,
they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.

Gospel John 12:44-50

Jesus cried out and said,
“Whoever believes in me believes not only in me
but also in the one who sent me,
and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.
I came into the world as light,
so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,
I do not condemn him,
for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.
Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words
has something to judge him: the word that I spoke,
it will condemn him on the last day,
because I did not speak on my own,
but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak.
And I know that his commandment is eternal life.

Ordained for Mission

In today’s readings we hear about Saul and Barnabas being sent off on mission by the power of the Holy Spirit, following the laying on of hands by the Church at Antioch. Here we see in the nascent Church the early power of ordination that imparts the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the sake of apostolic mission. Today, thank God for a good priest who has received this gift for apostolic work.

Dear God, my Abba Father, Lord Jesus my Savior, Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for lighting my path. For bringing truth into my life. Your truth, Your wisdom. For helping overcome my doubts about religion, and realizing it’s about my relationship with You. Only You Jesus.
So I pray for Your Church and all denominations that serve You by bringing Your truth, Your light to those in need, in the dark. Light their way home to You.
I pray for all those that server Your Church. The priests, ministers and lay people. Guide them, and keep their hearts open and connected to Your truth.
I pray for me, mine and theirs. The each of us will find that priest or minister to help teach and guide us in knowing and understanding Your Word.
And that it is not our will, but Yours Lord God.
Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.
In Jesus name I pray.
